Tusky County sends Post 740 home early
EAST SPRINGFIELD – The hole was much too deep to dig out of for the Richmond Post 740 baseball team.
Visiting Tuscarawas County Post 205 collected 19 hits and tallied at least one run in each of the first four innings as the Panthers defeated Richmond, 16-2, in five innings Wednesday evening.
“We threw it, and they hit it,” Richmond (7-10) head coach Sam Davis said. “We ran into a buzzsaw. I tip my hat to them. You have to give them all the credit. They were on fire.”
Tanner Evans took the loss. Evans did not strike out or walk a batter in 2 innings.
Evans was replaced with out in the third inning by Collin Scott, who started the game at first base. Scott struck out one while walking two in 2 innings.
Austin Horan ended up with an RBI triple, and Dom Rogers recorded an infield single for Post 740.
Tom Addy picked up the win for Post 205 (13-4). Addy struck out two while not issuing a free pass. He delivered 47 pitches. Meanwhile, Evans (64) and Scott (65) combined to throw 129 pitches.
Offensively, all nine starters recorded at least one hit for the Panthers.
Individually, Nick Froman finished with three singles, a triple and six RBIs, Brandon Byers belted a single and a double to go along with three RBIs and Dallas Foster and Nick Incarnato each tallied two singles, a double and two RBIs.
Also, Nick Kamban contributed two singles and an RBI, Shawn Mills collected a single, a double and an RBI and Garret Harstine ended up with a single and an RBI.
“They hit some good pitches,” Davis said. “We put the ball in good spots, and they hit. Sometimes, that happens in baseball.
“It was not like we kicked the ball around.”
The Panthers raced out to a 15-0 lead.
The visitors scored two runs in the top of the first, four in the second and nine more in the third before Post 740 plated a pair in the home half of the third.
Rogers singled with one out, and he scored on a triple by Horan, who scored when the throw to third ended up going out of play.
Tuscarawas County tacked on another run in the fourth.
Post 205 sent 40 batters to the plate. Post 740 sent 18.
“Give them all of the credit,” Davis.
Both teams are scheduled to play at 6 p.m. today on the road. Richmond visits St. Clairsville, while Tuscarawas County will play at Cadiz.
