McLean chosen to lead Brooke football

WELLSBURG – The Brooke Board of Education named one of its own to lead the football program. On Monday, Mac McLean – a 1994 Brooke High graduate – was appointed the new head coach for the Bruins

McLean returns to his alma mater after serving as quarterbacks coach for St. Clairsville.

Since 2002, McLean has been an assistant with the Red Devils serving under his brother, Brett.

A handful of current Bruins players attended the board meeting.

“Welcome to Bruin Nation Coach Mac McLean. Time to turn up and make some noise,” rising Brooke senior Aaron Walker wrote on his Twitter account.

McLean replaces Sean Blumette, who stepped down from his head coaching role to assume an assistant principal position at Brooke. The Bruins went 6-14 in two years under Blumette.

A Bethany graduate, McLean played under the legendary Bud Billiard – a winner of 185 football games.

Attempts to reach McLean for comment went unsuccessful Monday night.
