Toronto golf qualifies for district tournament

SUGARCREEK — The Toronto golf team advanced to the district tournament next week with a fifth-place finish at the Division III sectional tournament Tuesday at Willandale Golf Course.

Strasburg won the team title with 321 and was led by medalist Dylan Tucker’s 75.

The Tigers were followed by Hiland (339), Malvern (369), Tusky Central Catholic (381), Toronto (382) and Bridgeport (397).

Sante Carducci led the Red Knights with an 82. Noah Smith and Connor Suffoletta each shot 94, while Coulter Kelly had a 112.

The district tournament will be held next Tuesday on the same golf course.

GIRLS SOCCER

Bears top Magnolia

NEW MARTINSVILLE — Kennedy Graves had the hat trick and added an assist at Oak Glen defeated host Magnolia, 5-0.

Abby Myers had a goal and an assist, Maggie Kovalick a goal and Dominca Price and Jordan Rodqiguez an assist.

The Golden Bears travel to Brooke Thursday for a 5 p.m. start.

VOLLEYBALL

JM topples Brooke

MOUNDSVILLE — Brooke senior Courtney Elliott recorded her 2,000th dig in a Bruins uniform in Tuesday’s 21-25, 25-10, 25-23, 25-16 loss at John Marshall.

It happened in the second set as she finished with 32 digs and three aces as Brooke fell to 8-14.

Landyn Haynes totaled 11 kills and 17 digs; Chloe Fox five kills, three blocks, 16 assists and 10 digs; Courtney Engle three kills and three blocks; and Haly Boyce six kills and 18 digs.

Grace Dodson added nine assists and nine digs; Adrianna Bailey three assists and seven digs; Jenna Cooper four kills and four assists; and Hope Bowman four kills and five blocks.

Brooke welcomes Steubenville today with a 4:30 p.m. freshman start.

Huskies win in 5

CADIZ — Katie Heavilin collected 53 digs as Harrison Central rallied for a 18-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-12, 15-12 victory over visiting Shadyside Tuesday.

Sarah Fink totaled 20 digs and 15 kills; Lyndsey Hennis 25 digs and 10 kills; Shelbie Mitchell 43 assists and 20 digs; Emily Moore 10 kills and five blocks; Caitlin Emhoff 17 digs and nine kills; and Maddy Doty 14 digs, nine kills and two blocks.

The Huskies head to St. Clairsville Thursday.

Toronto sweeps Irish

BELLAIRE — Toronto defeated host St. John Central 25-15, 27-25, 25-13 Tuesday.

Maddie Robins finished with 25 assists; Jamie Anderson nine kills and four points;Jenna Leasure 19 points and eight kills; and Delaney Merideth 10 kills, seven digs and four points.

Desiree Meadows added four kills and three points; Serena Burkey nine points and three digs; Gina Fogle four digs; and Madison Sapp six points.

Toronto heads to Conotton Valley Thursday.

¯ Also on Tuesday, Union Local swept Buckeye Local 25-12, 25-14, 25-5 in volleyball; University scored four second-half goals in a 4-1 victory over Weir High at Jimmy Carey Stadium in girls soccer.
