Buckeye walks off Bridgeport

RAYLAND — Buckeye Local beat Bridgeport, 6-5, behind a strong day at the plate and on the mound from Andrew Hillman.

Hillman had a single, double and an RBI for the Panthers. The winning run was scored by Jared Moore, who came across home plate on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Also, Corey Neavin had a single; Drake Novak had a single; John Marelli had two singles and an RBI; Moore had a single and an RBI: Logan Barsch had an RBI; Jeremiah Seaman had a single and Owen Long had a single.

Pitching for Buckeye was Hillman, who had one strikeout. Gino Barber also pitched and had four strikeouts as Shayne Christian came in for relief as well.

Big Red falls on road

BOARDMAN — The Boardman baseball team walked off Steubenville on Thursday by a score of 3-2. Boardman scored a run in the first and a run in the third, while Big Red got two runs off the bat of Mitchell Gulan in the top of the seventh.

Gulan’s two-run home run tied it up before Boardman answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Also at the plate for Steubenville, Gino Pierro and Alec Taylor each had doubles and Johnny Agresta had a single.

Calvin Bickerstaff took the mound for Big Red and struck out four, walked one and allowed just five hits.

Big Red (14-3) is back in action today hosting Beaver Local. Steubenville will remain at Vaccaro Field on Saturday, hosting Harrison Central for an VAC 4A baseball semifinal.

First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.

Shamrocks beat Toronto

BARNESVILLE — Barnesville earned a 5-4 victory in eight innings over Toronto on Thursday. The winning blow came on a walkoff hit.

For Toronto, Nick Sninchak had two singles and an RBI; Cole Bodnar had a single and two RBIs; Nick Chetock had a single; Danny Zdinak had a single and Sante Carducci had an RBI.

Nate Karaffa pitched five innings for Toronto, striking out two. Nolan Clegg came in for relief and pitched 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.

Toronto will play again on Saturday, hosting Shadyside for in an OVAC 2A semifinal at 1 p.m.

For the Huskies, Logan Elliott had a single; Logan Starr had an RBI; Tyler Redish had a triple; Andrew Clelland had a single and double; Caden Arbaugh had a single; Logan Tonkovich had a single, double and three RBIs; Rob Bowers had a single and two RBI and J.R. Heavilin had an RBI.

Heavilin also went the distance on the mound with four strikeouts and one walk.

For Indian Creek, Wade Geanangel started and had six strikeouts. Trevor Martin came in for relief and had one strikeout. At the plate for the Redskins, Jared Harvey had a double; Kody Cottis had two singles; Brayden Starkey had a single and Richie Gualtiere had a single.

Against the Bulldogs, Destiny Christian had a single; Alaire Destifanes had a triple; Erica Cruse had a single and Lillie Windsheimer had a single and an RBI. Tori Luyster pitched in Game 1 and had three strikeouts.

Toronto shuts down Wellsville

WELLSVILLE — The Toronto softball team beat Wellsville, 13-2.

For the Red Knights, Gina Fogle had three singles and a double; Serena Burkey had three singles; Allyson Kuntz had two singles and a double; Delaney Meredith had three singles and Shanna Reed had two singles.

Fogle and Jamie Anderson also hit home runs.

On the mound, Desiree Meadows limited the Tigers to just four hits, while striking out six.

WELLSBURG — On Thursday, the Oak Glen boys tennis team edged Brooke, 4-3. On Wednesday, the Oak Glen boys tennis team fell to Linsly, 4-2.

In singles, Oak Glen’s Devon Flanigan beat Brooke’s Nick Calvert, 8-3; Brooke’s Mason Zupp beat Oak Glen’s Connor Blake, 8-1; Oak Glen’s Brogan Moran beat Brooke’s Gavin Browne, 8-1; and Oak Glen’s Parker Provenzano beat Brooke’s Colin Heilman, 8-2.

In doubles, Brooke’s Calvert and Zupp beat Oak Glen’s Flanigan and Moran, 8-6; Brooke’s Browne and Heilman beat Oak Glen’s Garrett Rhodes and Josh Lantz, 8-5; and Oak Glen’s Blake and Provenzano beat Brooke’s Anthony Taylor and Kris Obeldabel, 8-3.
