Knights win 18th; Big Red tops Potters

TORONTO — Nolan Clegg and Sante Carducci each drove home a pair of runs as Toronto dumped visiting East Liverpool, 11-0, Monday at the Knight Baseball Complex in 4¢ innings.

The Red Knights scored 10 times in the bottom of the first inning.

Dakota Swearingen earned the win. He allowed two singles.

Nolan Clegg doubled, tripled and drove in a run, while Nick Chetock and Danny Zdinak each drove in a run with two singles.

Toronto (18-2) welcomes Steubenville Catholic Central at 5 p.m. Wednesday and takes on Wheeling Central at 4 p.m. Saturday at Vacarro Field in the OVAC Class 2A championship game.

Cadets nip Dons

WHEELING — Gage Giovengo’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Linsly a 9-8 victory over visiting Madonna Monday.

The Cadets held an 8-2 lead through four innings, when the Blue Dons answered with six runs in the top of the fifth inning. During that inning, Madonna received a double by Tyler Wright, a single by Dom Mazur, a walk by Gavin Dietrich, a single by Mac Raymond, and a walk by Ryan Austin.

Chayce Lemley and Mazur each had two singles and Wright a single and double.

Brooke edges St. C

WELLSBURG — Brooke scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out and grabbed a 6-5 victory over visiting St. Clairsville Monday.

With one out, Zac Sacripanti reached on an error, Nick Langley walked and Nick Leonard reached on an error to load the bases. Chris Turner and Justin Pennybacker walked to knot the game at 5, and the Bruins walked off with a victory when a Jacob Bailey grounder was thrown away trying to get Leonard at home.

Two Red Devils pitchers held Brooke to three singles, but four errors and nine walks did in St. Clairsville.

Bishops stop Weir

WHEELING — Bishop Donahue scored five times in the bottom of the first inning thanks, in large part, to four Weir High errors, and hung on for a 6-4 victory Monday.

The visiting Red Riders, who head to rival Oak Glen today, received two singles and an RBI from Jake Rosnick, two singles from Donavan Spencer and a double from Michael Mills.

Levi Mikula took the loss.

Big Red tops Potters

STEUBENVILLE — Big Red took a 2-0 lead on RBI singles from Kameron DiMarzio in the first inning and Samantha Cucarese in the second inning and went on for a 4-1 victory Monday at Franciscan University of Steubenville.

Steubenville will take on St. Clairsville at 5:15 p.m. today on Ben’s Field at the I-470 Complex in an OVAC Class 5A semifinal.

Freshman Madison Fields singled home two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Hayley Stamps earned the win. She struck out eight and walked none.

Warriors down Creek

CARROLLTON — Indian Creek scored three times in the top of the first inning, but host Carrollton came back with six in the second and three in the third for a 14-9 victory Monday.

Haylie Scott and Taylor Scott combined for all of the Redskins’ RBIs. They each had a multiple hit contest, along with Megan Kelley and Rachel Cooper.

The teams combined for 28 hits. But, Creek committed 10 errors.

The Redskins visit Meadowbrook today and then take on Wheeling Park at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday on Lisa’s Field at the I-470 Complex in an OVAC Class 5A semifinal.

MOUNDSVILLE — John Marshall scored five times in the third inning and five more in the fourth of a 10-0 victory over visiting Weir Monday.

The Red Riders were held without a hit. Mariah Stevens took the loss.

Weir High welcomes Fairmont Senior today at 5:30 p.m., Southern Local Wednesday and heads to Martins Ferry on Friday.

RICHMOND — Visiting Cardinal Mooney scored all of its runs in the top of the fifth inning and held on for a 9-8 victory Monday over Edison at Jefferson Lake State Park.

Skylar Fankhasuer delivered three singles and two RBIs for the Wildcats, while Charli McConnell had two singles and Tomi McConnell a double, single and two RBIs.

Edison (12-7) takes on Oak Glen at 7 p.m. today at the I-470 Complex in an OVAC Class 4A semifinal.

RAYLAND — Alaire Destifanes tripled, singled twice and drove in two runs for Buckeye Local during Monday’s 11-6 victory over visiting Beaver Local.

The Panthers broke a 6-5 lead open with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Destiny Christian, the winning pitcher, doubled, singled and drove in two, while Lexi Swiger tripled, singled for an RBI.

Alexia Dowdle, Kobey Johnson, Shaniel Nameth, Madison Young and Katie Heavilin each had two hits for the Huskies. Dowdle picked up the win.
