Crusaders erase early deficit, win 4th game

BRIDGEPORT — The Steubenville Catholic Central’s girls basketball team used a big second half rally to earn its fourth win in five starts Thursday inside the John J. Havlicek Gymnasium.

Down by seven at the intermission, the Crusaders outscored Bridgeport 34-20 during the final 16 minutes to collect a 50-43 victory.

Tia Taglione scored five points during the third frame as Central overcame the early deficit and claimed a 34-28 lead. Brantley Turnage and Bella Oliver added four points each, while Julie Zatta knocked down a crucial three-pointer.

In the fourth, Taglione scored nine of her team’s 16 points, six coming from behind the arc. Grace Godich added five for the Crusaders, who will visit Madonna Monday.

Taglione, Central’s senior point guard, finished with a game-high 17 points and connected four times from long distance. Godich chipped in with nine, Zatta eight and Christine Dombrowski six. Oliver hauled down 12 rebounds and recorded three steals.

Marissa Beal led Bridgeport in scoring with 15. Kamden Dulesky had nine, Jaren Tucker eight and Angela Sommer six. Beal and Dulesky accounted for 15 of Bridgeport’s 23 first half points.

The Bulldogs are idle until next Thursday, when they visit Monroe Central.

Bridgeport won the junior varsity encounter 26-16. Bri Conway led the Bulldogs with six points while Bri DeChristoper had four for Central.
