10-month-old baby ingests meth; mother arrested

ELKVIEW, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia woman has been arrested after her 10-month-old baby tested positive for methamphetamine.
WCHS-TV reports 24-year-old Miranda Gale Taylor was arrested Tuesday and charged with child neglect resulting in injury. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office says the baby was in the hospital as of Tuesday night after the drug was found in the baby’s system Monday.
Deputies responded to the scene Monday after Taylor’s mother called authorities and reported that the baby was acting strange. Assistant Kanawha County Prosecutor Maryclaire Akers says Taylor refused to allow deputies inside the home, so deputies forced their way inside. Kanawha County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Humphreys says it’s unclear how the drug was ingested. The baby was still in the hospital as of Tuesday night.
It’s unclear whether Taylor has a lawyer.
