QUICK TAKES
MILESTONES: Cardinal Operating Co., managing agent of the of Cardinal Power Plant at Brilliant, has surpassed two safety milestones.
In August, the 1800-megawatt coal-fired power plant achieved more than 1.5 million hours without a “days away,” restricted or transferred injury, from April 2016 to August. DART is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration metric that shows how workplace injuries and illnesses cause affected employees to remain away from work; restrict their work activities; or cause them to transfer to another job because of an inability to perform their typical duties within a calendar year. DART rates help employers to identify workplace safety issues.
The plant also reached 2 million hours since its last lost time injury, which had never been achieved in the plant’s 50-year history.
“Safety is our top priority, and our record is world-class” said Coty Lee, Cardinal Operating Co. safety and health supervisor. “Hard work and our evolving safety culture made the achievement possible. We work in a dangerous environment, and we want all Cardinal staff members to return home without incident every night. We’re all charged with being our brother’s keeper. Safety is everyone’s responsibility–nothing trumps safety.”
The Cardinal Plant employs 318.
