WORKSHOP: A business start-up workshop is being offered by the Small Business Development Center on Oct. 8 at Kent State University-Tuscarawas.

The workshop, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., will provide an overview of issues related to starting and operating a business. Issues covered include business planning, financial planning, market demand and financing.

The workshop has a $20 materials fee and registration must be made online via the Kent State Tuscarawas website.

CONFERENCE: Local therapist Jack Koehrsen, with an office located at 485 Colliers Way in Weirton, attended the 32nd-annual National Conference on Problem Gambling held at the Hilton Conference Center in Cleveland.

Speakers at the conference discussed the differences in addictions within various states and countries and the assistance provided. Also, veterans’ issues with gambling was addressed.

The state of West Virginia has established a hotline that can be reached at any time for a referral to a counselor. The number is (800) GAMBLER.

NEW STAFF: Cedar One Realty, with a local office in Wintersville and a new office in Carrollton, has two new agents and an office manager.
