Receives award

Stephanie Donofe Meeks, right, a former Steubenville resident, has received the 2019 Presidential Award from the Ohio Educational Library Media Association. The honor is given at the discretion of the president to an individual or group who has provided notable service and significant contributions to OELMA and school librarians. Meeks, the daughter of Steve and Louise Donofe of Steubenville, is a 1982 graduate of Catholic Central High School and a graduate of Kent State University. She resides in Columbus. OELMA President Deb Logan said, “Frequently, I find quotes from books I have read become part of how I see the world. In his ‘Mordant’s Need’ series, Stephen R. Donaldson’s character, Myste, believes and bravely begins a mission with the belief, ‘Problems should be solved by those who see them.’ This year’s presidential award recognizes someone who found herself in a new job… a job with a great deal of responsibility, with much to learn and do. As she began tackling this job, she dug into her past as a school librarian, and she worked for stronger school libraries for Ohio’s children. As the Ohio Department of Education’s director for integrated technology, Meeks positioned herself as supporter and promoter of the important work that takes place in Ohio’s school libraries for Ohio’s students. She has fostered and promoted Future Ready, Ohio School Library Guidelines and OELMA.” Meeks received the award at the 2019 OELMA Conference Awards Celebration held Oct. 3 at the Dublin Embassy Suites. Joining Meeks were Brandi Young, left, and Logan.
