JVS students advance to state HOSA contest

BLOOMINGDALE — Students at Jefferson County Joint Vocational School earned the right to advance to the Ohio Future Health Professionals, formerly the Health Occupation Students of America, competition following a successful appearance at the regionals.

Health technologies students in the organization attended the regional competition at Perry High School in Massillon on Jan. 25, where Izzy Pratko and Sam Shrock gained first, Leah Pennington and Rylee Faulkner were second and Tyler Corella and Samantha Wilkin were third in CPR/First Aid. Kacey Carothers and Haylee Blackburn also gained first and second place, respectively, in clinical specialty and Dustin Morgan was second with Susie Randolph in third in the home health aide category.

Rounding out the group were students Hannah Meeker, second in nurse assistant; Abbie Saffell, second in physical therapy assistant; and Danielle Strohmeyer, first in behavioral health.

Adviser Tammy Sismondo said the students will move on to the state competition, which had been scheduled for March 31-April 1 at the Columbus Convention Center.
