Quick takes

GRANT RECEIVED: The Area Agency on Aging, Region 9 Inc. has received an AmeriCorps Senior Volunteer Grant Award for $267,971. Only 46 awards were made nationwide, and only three were made in Ohio. AAA9 is the only Area Agency on Aging in the country to receive the funds.

With this new funding, officials said they would be able to work to connect older adults in the agency’s nine-county region with volunteer opportunities to show up and step up for their community by serving with our AmeriCorps Senior Program.

AAA9 covers Belmont, Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Holmes, Jefferson, Muskingum and Tuscarawas counties.

EXPANDING: Wal-Mart is adding four new fulfillment centers to its existing capacity, a move that will bring more than 4,000 jobs and make next- or two-day shipping available to more Americans. Wal-Mart said Friday the next generation fulfillment centers will be built during the next three years.

The four fulfillment centers will be able to provide 75 percent of the U.S. population with next- or two-day shipping on millions of items, including Marketplace items shipped by Wal-Mart fulfillment services.

The first next generation fulfillment center will open over the summer in Joliet, Ill.

Another one will open next spring in McCordsville, Ind. A third one will open in Lancaster, Texas, in the fall of 2023, and the fourth one is set to open in 2024 in Greencastle, Pa.
