Charged: Skylar K. Jackson, 22, 3168 Weir Ave., Weirton, driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and person prohibited from possessing a firearm, Tuesday.

Better late than dead: Police cited a Bloomingdale man for reckless operation after he allegedly passed an officer at a high rate of speed on Sunset Boulevard, then cut in an out of traffic nearly striking as many as seven vehicles along the way, Tuesday. When they pulled him over on Washington Street hill, police report the driver, Ethaniel L. Stimpert, 18, 1266 county Road 22A, told them “he did not want to be late for school.”
Men in black: A caller reported seeing several men dressed in black and wearing ski masks get out of a suspicious vehicle left in the 1300 block of Wellesley Avenue, Wednesday. The men fled through a vacant lot. Polie said the vehicle was reported stolen in Pennsylvania.
Scuffle: An employee at a business in the 200 block of North Seventh Street told police a customer tried to go behind the checkout counter, Tuesday. He said the man came into the shop and asked some questions and was headed to the door when he suddenly “turned around and charged (him).” The employee told police they tussled and ended up knocking some shelving over and when he ended up on top of the customer the man bit his middle finger. Police used a surveillance photo to track the shopper down and said he admitted to being in the store and walking up to the counter, but insisted he “stayed on the carpet and never went behind the counter.” He claims the employee “grabbed him, threw him against the shelves and then was on top of him” and that he bit his finger in self-defense.
The pot and the kettle: Neighbors reported a disturbance in the 800 block of North Eighth Street, Tuesday. A couple involved told police said they’d never had any problem with their neighbor until she found out they’d been charged with theft, and since then she’s “begun to accuse them of being criminals and pedophiles.” While they were talking to the couple the other woman drove up “and began to verbally accost” the couple, police said, noting that they heard her yelling those things at the couple, who said she’s also made threats “about having her son handle the problem when he returns home from prison.”
Bumpy ride: Four vehicles parked in the Sunset Motors lot were struck by a motorist, Wednesday. Police said the suspect vehicle was found in the middle of the road, disabled. The driver fled the area on foot, they said. No further details were available.
Checked out: A woman was charged with misdemeanor theft after allegedly failing to scan all the items she bagged and put in her shopping cart at the self-checkout in Wal-Mart, Tuesday. Employees claim they watched the woman stack several items one on top of the other and then scan only the bottom item before checking out and leaving the store. Police said Amanda D. Falkner, 34, 546 Rose St., Follansbee, denied wrongdoing, but she was taken into custody after employees compared her receipt to the items in her cart and allegedly discovered 25 items valued at $109 they said hadn’t been scanned or paid for.
Junk bag: A Wal-Mart employee said a woman who’d entered the store with a shoplifting suspect dropped a cigarette packet on her way out the door that contained a small clear plastic bag with an unknown substance inside, Tuesday. Police said the bag contained “a glass-like shard substance similar to methamphetamine.”
Booked: Two men were taken into custody after a traffic stop on Orchard Street and Lawson Avenue, Wednesday. Police said Patrick Allen, 33, 1432 Maryland Ave., Steubenville, was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, display of plates and driving under suspension, while Deysen Lasure, 24, no fixed address, Steubenville, was booked into the Jefferson County jail for probation violation.
Animal cruelty: A resident in the 200 block of Cunningham Lane told police someone “had either stabbed or shot their dog a pellet gun,” Tuesday. Police said the dog had a small-sized hole in front of its left ear.
About face: An Oak Grove Avenue resident called for police because a man was trying to force his way into the residence, Tuesday. Police said they heard the woman “yelling from the upstairs” and saw the man pushing the door open and tried to close it on them but failed. Due to the nature of the call, they said they kept the man on the porch until they could talk with the woman, who said she did not call police and nothing had happened. When questioned about a bruise and swelling by her eye, police said she told them “she struck herself.”
Booked: Theresa Coles, 45, 808 Wilkins St., Steubenville, failure to appear, Wednesday.
Creeper: A Ridge Avenue resident said a man known to her “broke into her garage and was standing in her backyard,” Tuesday. She said it’s an ongoing issue and she is trying to obtain a protection order. Six hours later, police had to return to the residence because someone had broken a window on the side of her house.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to the owners/occupants of properties at 2530 Cherry Ave., rolls of old carpet in the rear of property, an old in-ground swimming pool full of junk and litter, high grass/weeds and two vehicles with expired/no registrations and flat tires; 2817 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, pickup parked in the front yard; 4306 Southeast Drive, three vehicles parked in front yard;
Cited: Jazalyn McVicker, 25, 817 Daniels St., Toronto, and Theresa I. Owen, 39, 616 Ross Park Blvd., Steubenville, both for speeding (school zone); David R. Hoover, 60, Crystal River, Fla., driving under suspension and a stop sign violation; Markell Albritton, 30, 1509 Foster Place, Steubenville, speeding.

Stinky stuff: Someone complained to deputies that a Yorkville couple was “tossing dog feces over a fence in their backyard” onto the railroad tracks and property, Monday. Deputies were told the pair own about 12 dogs
Illegal dumping: More problems with illegal dumping at JB Green sites is being reported. Deputies were told a man dumped a plastic hose reel, two plastic lawn chairs and two broken office chairs at the JB Green Toronto site.
Craziness: A Steubenville area resident said her son and boyfriend were fighting, Monday. She told deputies she wasn’t sure if her son was “intoxicated or what,” but said he was “running around the house screaming at (her boyfriend) and threatening to assault him,” but she didn’t want him to go to jail. Her son claimed his mother and her live-in “are using drugs and will not leave (him) alone.” Her boyfriend said the younger man was “out of control” that night so he stayed in the bedroom but the younger man “kept pounding on his door, wanting him to come out and fight.” Police said the woman’s son didn’t appear to be impaired but was chatty, and while he was putting on his shoes said, “let’s go to jail” and claimed they wouldn’t leave him alone. He admitted yelling a few times but insisted he never threatened anyone. His mother and her boyfriend agreed they just wanted him to leave the residence and deputies said he found a friend who was willing to let him stay there but he couldn’t get anyone to give him a ride, so deputies took him.
Neighborhood wars: Bloomingdale residents were fighting about a driveway shared by three households, Friday. A husband and wife claimed one of the neighbors was infringing on their property, but the neighbor said they’d moved the survey stakes to a position that benefited them. All were advised they’d have to settle the dispute in court. The husband and wife weren’t satisfied because they wanted the neighbor arrested for trespassing, which deputies declined to do.
Suspicious: A Woodward Avenue, Mingo Junction resident reported seeing a man underneath her neighbor’s car, cutting off the catalytic converter, Monday. The man claimed it was his brother’s car and that he’d asked him to remove the part. The brother who owned the car was upset that officers woke him up but did not want to pursue charges against his brother.
Hack or scam: A Bergholz man claimed all of his electronic devices had been hacked and told deputies he thinks his ex-girlfriend is behind it, Friday. He said he was on the phone with IT trying to get rid of the hack.
Stripped: A woman checking on a bank-owned property on old state Route 7 reported finding the plumbing gone, Monday. She said other items also are missing.
Cited: Herbert R. Mayo, 55, 716 Rosswell Ave., Steubenville, driving under suspension. Police allege Mayo was pulled over after he turned left onto University Boulevard from state Route 7 Sunday.
Stolen: A Sinclair Avenue resident discovered his residence had been ransacked and items stolen, Friday. He said a Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation4 and PlayStation 3 games, Wii, Sega and Nintendo 3ds were missing.
