CADIZ — Valley Hospice and Jarvis Law Office will host a presentation focusing on advance care planning at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Harrison Community Hospital cafeteria, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The presentation, which is open to the public at no charge, will provide information attendees can use when talking about their wishes with family, friends and health care providers.

Topics will include living will and medical power of attorney documents, plus legal documents that go hand-in- hand with advance directives.

The program is being presented in coordination with National Healthcare Decisions Day, an effort to highlight the importance of advance health care decision-making.

“As a result of National Healthcare Decisions Day, many more people in our community can be expected to have thoughtful conversations about their health care decisions and complete reliable advance directives to make their wishes known,” said Robert Kolb, a Valley Hospice social worker. “Fewer families and health care providers will have to struggle with making difficult health care decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient, and health care providers and facilities will be better equipped to address advance health care planning issues before a crisis and be better able to honor wishes when the time comes to do so.”

A one-hour registered nurse continuing education unit is available for participants. Refreshments will be served. For information, call Valley Hospice at (740) 859-5650 or (877) HOSPICE.
