Yard sale planned at Fort Steuben Mall
STEUBENVILLE — What started as a family discussion has led to an exciting summer event at the Fort Steuben Mall.
Property manager Susan Huss said that she and her daughter were discussing having a yard sale at her daughter’s home when she mentioned she always got rained out.
Huss said the next day she and her assistant continued the conversation, which led to some brainstorming and the plans for a series of community yard sales at the mall.
The first will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on May 4 inside the space that had been occupied by Sears.
Huss said all participants will be given a 10-by-10 space in the store, and added that the space is going fast.
She said that they are measuring to see if they can fit any extra tables in for the May event, but they already have a waiting list for June, so interested parties should contact the mall to reserve their space as soon as possible.
“We have planned the community yard sales for June and July,” Huss said. “And, depending on demand, we would like to start something back up before school starts.”
Huss said that since the Sears space is currently for lease, the mall can not guarantee that this will be the space they use if the sales turn into an ongoing thing, but she doesn’t see that as being a big problem.
“We can always find somewhere to set up,” she said.
During the event, Huss said the mall also will hold a vendor show in the common areas of the shopping building.
“We will have things like Tupperware and other businesses,” she said.
Huss said the sales are one component of changes that are coming to mall.
She said the mall has started patching some of the potholes in the parking lot. Huss said they have already completed working on the back entrance to the mall by Dick’s Sporting Goods, around J.C. Penney and the front entrance and parking lot of the mall.
Huss said they hoped to have things done by this weekend, but are battling mother nature.
“We are playing the weather game,” she said. “They have to blow the (rain) water out before they can put the patch down.”
Huss also announced two new stores that will be coming to the building in the comng months.
Thorn’s Kitchen and Catering and a Touch of Elegance are both planning to open in the mall sometime in June.
