STEUBENVILLE — Officials with Urban Mission Ministries and Cedar One Realty have announced a joint effort of managing the Seventh Street Plaza on Seventh Street.

Cedar One welcomes the opportunity to manage the property, while the Urban Mission will run their day-to-day operations out of one storefront.

Founded in 1959 as an outreach to local steel workers by the United Methodist Church, the Urban Mission has grown to become one of the largest ecumenical Christian social service agencies in the Ohio Valley. The organizational duty of the Urban Mission is “to be a concrete witness of the love of God through the continuation of the ministry of Jesus by serving the needs of the poor and disadvantaged.”

As a longstanding service provider to the community, the Urban Mission understands the dynamics of poverty and hunger and their effects on those living in the Ohio Valley. The Urban Mission strives to provide accessible and integrated services that nurture, restore dignity and produce desirable outcomes for a hurting population and a community working toward economic revitalization.

The Urban Mission purchased the plaza in October as a way to better serve the community and participate in the revitalization of downtown Steubenville. This location will house the Urban Mission’s Fresh Start initiative. It will serve as a hub for the community to gather, learn, serve and work, and be used as a centralized space for clients to locate assistance based on their personal needs.

In addition to the current services offered by the Urban Mission, this location will house:

¯ A local food co-op to provide food staples on a dependable and reliable basis for members and the surrounding community;

¯ An industrial-size training kitchen and coffee bar with the dual purpose of providing meals and a culinary arts training program to the local community;

¯ A computer lab with mixed used space to accommodate programming for student learning, a job readiness program called Jobs for Life, life skills classes and community training opportunities;

¯ A location for social enterprises and a business incubator for local entrepreneurs; and

¯ A chapel and prayer room for the community to utilize.

The plaza also is home to Auto Zone, Boost Mobile, Family Dollar and Rent-A-Center.

The Urban Mission reached out to Cedar One Realty to collaborate on managing the property.

“We take a lot of pride in being one of the areas only full-service brokerages in the Ohio Valley. We manage residential, commercial and storage units, which give us a lot of diversification to enable us to provide service to such an awesome organization as the Urban Mission,” said Joe Luckino, broker-owner of Cedar One Realty.
