East Liverpool City Hospital receives ‘A’ for Spring 2020

EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool City Hospital was awarded an ‘A’ in the spring Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing the facility’s achievements in providing safer health care.

“As the nation copes with a challenging pandemic, our gratitude extends to hospital leadership and health care workers everywhere for their tremendous dedication,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of the Leapfrog Group. “We hope this ‘A’ helps to thank the people who work and volunteer for East Liverpool City Hospital. They are role models in putting patients first, and their service has been extraordinary in our country’s time of need.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety. The safety grade is a letter grade assigned to all general hospitals across the country and updated every six months, assessing how well the hospital prevents medical errors and other harms to patients.

“We are once again honored to receive a Leapfrog Grade A for this spring. I am extremely proud to work with and lead a highly talented health care team that positions each patient’s health care needs as the priority. A team that is 100 percent committed to delivering the highest level of quality care and safety to our community. As we move forward in these unprecedented times within health care, I want to personally say thank you and congratulations to each of our staff members and front-line health care team members for the great work each of you do every day to keep our community safe,” said Keith Richardson, president and CEO of the 152-bed, acute care hospital.

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

“To receive the ‘A’ designation is a testament to the dedication of our entire staff and health care teams at East Liverpool City Hospital. This designation represents our teams’ dedication to providing the highest quality of care to our patients. It is truly an honor to be recognized in this way,” said Dr. Gretchen Nickell, chief medical officer of ELCH.

ELCH’s affiliates include East Liverpool Medical Group, East Liverpool Home Health and East Liverpool Therapy.
