Six area seniors win scholarships from Carroll Electric
CARROLLTON — Carroll Electric has announced the recipients of this year’s Children of Members Scholarships.
A total of six $1,000 scholarships were awarded to graduating high school seniors whose parents or guardians are Carroll Electric members.
The Children of Members Scholarship competition is an annual contest that encourages Ohio’s rural youth to further their education and provides them an opportunity to become more aware of careers in the rural electric program.
Carroll Electric’s first-place scholarship recipient was Karlie Blissenbach of Southern Local. Blissenbach is the daughter of Karl and Cassie Blissenbach of Lisbon. As part of placing first in Carroll Electric’s scholarship, Blissenbach competed in the Ohio’s Electric Cooperative’s statewide competition, where she was awarded an additional $1,400 as an honorable mention.
The other local scholarship recipients wer Ryan Peshina of Malvern High school, son of Doug and Jenny Peshina; Alexander Carrothers of Carrollton High School, son of Demetrius and Cindy Carrothers; Maya Bhatia of Glen Oak High School, daughter of Aman and Colleen Bhatia; Michael “Zach” Untch of Malvern High School, son of Mike and Joy Untch; Carly Caldwell of Conotton Valley, daughter of Ryan and Danielle Caldwell.
Carroll Electric, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, serves more than 12,400 customers in six counties.
