Registration for adult education at JVS available this week and next
BLOOMINGDALE — Area residents seeking to expand their knowledge can register for adult education courses at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School.
The fall semester will be in full swing with registration set for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and Sept. 7, 8, 9 and 10, but signups will continue to the first day of class. Programs start Sept. 15 through early October and run from one to nine weeks, while classes range from computers and trade and industries to special interests. Some courses are free but others have charges and additional fees may be included for supplies, textbooks, workbooks, safety equipment and other materials.
Enrollment is open to anyone 18 years or older and a certificate of completion will be given to students enrolled in certain programs who have attended at least 60 percent of the classes. Payment will be made on the first night of class at the front desk.
“Our registration will start next week and, hopefully, we’ll get a good response,” said Rich Wilinski, program coordinator.
Protocols will be in place due to the COVID-19 virus and all enrollees will be required to wear a face mask while inside the building, practice social distancing and use hand sanitizer.
Wilinski said some classes have been canceled due to coronavirus concerns but he hoped to add them to the winter roster. Meanwhile, a few unique programs are now available, including bass fishing and sign language.
“We added the bass fishing program that we know some people will take advantage of,” he added. “We held a sign language class for the first time last year and it went over well. People indicated that they wanted to come back for additional instruction.”
