Columbiana port CEO to join national committee

PENNY TRAINA

LISBON — Penny Traina, chief executive officer of the Columbiana County Port Authority, is one of 25 new members to be appointed to the Maritime Transportation System National Advisory Committee by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

“I’m very honored and humbled to have been selected,” Traina said. “They’re very excited to have someone who sits on a river to bring river experience to the transportation system.”

The new members of the MTSNAC will serve as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is implemented.

“Our maritime industry plays a central role in our supply chains and our economic strength as a nation,” Buttigieg said. “These new members will help us deliver the maritime investments in the bipartisan infrastructure law, fighting inflation and reducing delays for the American people.”

According to the Department of Transportation Maritime Administration, the MTSNAC will consist of 22 members from public and private entities and five senior federal employees from various agencies whose purpose is to guide the secretary of transportation on matters relating to U.S. maritime transportation, its integration with other segments of the transportation system and the viability of the Merchant Marine.
