WVU Medicine Harrison receives $18K from concert

Contributed DONATION — Mark Puskarich, event organizer for Blues for a Cure, right, presented proceeds from this year’s event to David Phillips, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Harrison Community Hospital.

CADIZ — WVU Medicine Harrison Community Hospital received $18,100 from the 12th-annual Sean Carney’s Blues for a Cure concert.

The concert raises donations for the Harrison Community Hospital Foundation Cancer Fund and the Harrison County Cancer Crusaders each year. The money raised from the event is allocated to Harrison County residents who have been afflicted by cancer. The fund assists cancer patients by helping to pay for medical care expenditures incurred when traveling for treatment, as well as basic expenses.

“We are appreciative of the continued support we receive from the community to help assist those who are in need financial assistance while battling cancer,” David Phillips, president and CEO said. “If you know of a cancer patient in need of financial assistance, whether its transportation to treatment or medical equipment, please direct them to call (740) 942-6206.”

This year’s concert featured Damon Fowler, Sean Carney, JP Soars & the Red Hots, Gypsy Jazz, Victor Wainwright and Terrance Grayson, Hoard and Jones Band, and Southern Hospitality.

“It was a pleasure to host Sean Carney’s Blues for a Cure 2023 on the new Mark at the Park stage. We raised money to support those battling cancer in Harrison County,” said Mark Puskarich, event organizer. “We look forward to hosting the June 28-29 event and hope to surpass $300,000 in total money raised since its inception.”
