Run Away From Drugs 5K set for May 13

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio — The East Liverpool High School Cross Country Team will host a Run Away From Drugs 5K from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 13 throughout downtown.

Race day registration begins at 9 a.m. and the 5K will begin at 10 a.m. It is open to everyone; there is no minimum or maximum age. The 5K will be timed by Second Sole. The overall winners in the male and female category will receive an award, as well as the top finishers in the under 14, 14 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59 and 60 and older age groups.

A free Kid’s Dash for children 8 and younger will begin at 9:30 a.m.; registration is required. The 100-yard run will have three age divisions, including 7- and 8-year-olds, 4- through 6-year-olds and 3 years old and younger.

Runners and walkers are encouraged to participate in the community celebration until 1 p.m. in the W. Fifth Street parking lots across from St. Aloysius Church. The event will include food, music, children’s activities and a dunk tank.

The 5K course begins at the East Liverpool City Hospital on W. Fifth Street and will continue through the Downtown Historic District. It is almost completely flat; those participating are welcome to either run or walk the course.

The entry fee is $10 and includes a T-shirt, and the first 50 who enter, never having previously participated in a 5K will receive a free entry. The Run Away From Drugs 5K is a collaboration between East Liverpool City Schools, East Liverpool Hospital and the ADAPT Coalition.
