STEUBENVILLE COUNTRY CLUB
WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
The Steubenville Country Club Women’s Golf Association held a tournament to benefit the Cancer Dietary Initiative on July 26 with Dianna Adams, Marilyn Kenny and Theresa Metcalf in charge of arrangements.
June Crago and Tammy Smedley of the CDI were guests of the Association at a luncheon held in the clubhouse following the tournament.
The CDI, a food pantry for local cancer patients undergoing treatments at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center, was launched in May 2013 when Dr. M. Pervaiz Rahman realized a need for this service. The CDI operates out of the basement of First Westminster Presbyterian Church in Steubenville where food is distributed on the third Saturday of every month. The CDI started with 13 patient families, a number that has grown to 102 families. Crago and Smedley pointed out that the CDI operates completely with all volunteer help. All donations received go directly to the local patients with no money used for administrative costs.
All members of the Steubenville Women’s Golf Association contributed an entry fee to participate in the tournament. A significant contribution to CDI was presented to Crago and Smedley on behalf of the association by Adams, treasurer.
Golf professional John Denholm directed the tournament and joined the women at the awards luncheon. Each golfer was eligible to win only one prize.
The major contest was a closest to the pin competition on the par 3 second hole. Koh won the contest and recorded a birdie there to go along with her birdies on hole Nos. 5, 11 and 18. Koh also chipped in on the 18th hole to take the money cup. She recorded a score of 83 for her 18-hole round.
The low net prize for the tournament was won by Marilyn Kenny with a 70.
Denholm conducted a putting and chipping contest on the putting green following the tournament. Theresa Metcalf won the putting contest with her long putt rolling within tap-in range. Kim Criss took the chipping award with her outstanding chip finishing close to the cup.
Prizes for the tournament were provided by Legal Hair and Day Spa and golf association member Dotty Tegano.
Paula Hope won a golf lesson from John Denholm in a drawing. Dianna Adams recorded a birdie on the 12th hole during play.
Each golfer received a shoe bag provided by the CDI, which contained a towel, golf balls and tees.
A decorated cake reading CDI in red letters was served as dessert. Bud vases of red carnations adorned the luncheon table and were presented to Crago and Smedley. Golfers wore red shirts for the tournament.
This week’s event will be the NOSE tournament, and play will be held on Tuesday instead of Wednesday. Adams and Kenny are hostesses for August.
