Unionport Grange to host

meeting set for Thursday

UNIONPORT — Unionport Grange No. 2728 will host Jefferson County Pomona Grange No. 41 at noon Thursday.

The grange roster will be distributed, and the program will be presented by Sis Brannon.

Jim Hyndman is Pomona Grange Master. All meetings are held the second Thursday of every other month, beginning at noon.

Chester Arts Club selling tickets for gift card tree

CHESTER — The Chester Arts Club is once again raising money to donate to local charities and community improvement projects.

The membership and local businesses have donated more than $430 in gift cards to decorate the club’s table-top tree.

Tickets for the tree may be purchased for $1 each or six for $5 at the Festival of Trees to be held Nov. 17-19 at the Chester City Building.

Tickets also will be sold during Chester Hometown Christmas from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 2 at the City Park with the children’s activities. From noon to 4 p.m., tickets will be sold at the Chester Volunteer Fire Department building.

The winning ticket will be drawn after the “Hometown Christmas Parade.”

Numerous events planned

at the Gathering Place

PARIS, Pa. — Ron King will perform a variety of gospel, country and rock songs during an evening of music at the Gathering Place Coffee Shop at Paris Presbyterian Church, 127 Steubenville Pike, Paris (Burgettstown).

It will be held Friday, beginning at 7 p.m. King will have CDs available for purchase. There will be free ice tea and chips and other bags of snacks available.

The Gathering Place also will be the site of Color Me Calm, adult coloring opportunities to be held Nov. 14 and Nov. 28, beginning at 10 a.m. both days.

The event is free and open to the public.

A “Coffee with the Author” session will be held Nov. 15 with a lunch and opportunity to meet author A.K. Downing, who will discuss her young adult adventure novel “Into the Air.” It begins at noon.

Downing grew up in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania and spent her summers exploring the fields, meadows and orchards of her grandparents’ farm. She will have books available to sign and sell.

Craft, vendor show Saturday

at Weirton’s Millsop Center

WEIRTON — The third-annual Santa’s Runway Craft and Vendor Show will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Millsop Community Center, 3420 Main St.

It will feature local crafters, food and baked goods, handmade products and unique gifts with more than 75 local vendors participating.

Proceeds from all drawings will benefit the Friendship Room in downtown Steubenville.

Santa will be on hand for photos.

Thanksgiving meal Friday

for Toronto Sunrise Seniors

TORONTO — The Toronto Sunrise Seniors met Oct. 27 at the Roosevelt Center, which was decorated for Halloween by the kitchen committee.

President Barbara Pritts presided and led in opening ceremonies. Chaplain Mary Edwards gave the blessing for the meal and closing prayer.

Reports were given by Secretary Laura Sheets; Edna Riffle, treasurer; and Social Secretary Nina Kavanaugh, who announced late October birthdays, anniversaries and health concerns.

Nancy Bodrog reported on the recent trip to a Columbus casino, and Pritts reminded members that money is due for the Dec. 13 trip to the Ohio Star Theater and Dutch Valley Restaurant in Amish country.

A sign-up sheet for kitchen committee volunteers for 2018 was circulated.

The next meeting is Friday and will feature a Thanksgiving menu.

Member Beverly Anderson was recognized during a new addition to the meeting called “Getting to Know Each Other Better.”

Kenny Mossor won the 50-50 drawing. Pritts thanked Marlene Garrett and Sharen Peters for selling the tickets for the drawing and John Lash for calling bingo numbers.

Bingo winners were Don Pritts, Paul Zink, Sharen Peters, Marcella McKnight, Rita Carnahan, Bonnie Wilson, Frank Marino, Beth Clark, Helen Lindsay, Kenny Mossor, Ruth White and Mary Edwards. Scat winners were Donna Spry and Nina Kavanaugh.
