DAR prospective members

meeting scheduled Nov. 17

WEIRTON — Do you have an ancestor who took part in the The American Revolution?

If so, you may be eligible to join the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The Fort Steuben Chapter of the National Society, DAR, will hold a prospective member workshop at 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at the First Christian Church, 3252 Main St.

The DAR is a nonprofit, non-political, worldwide service organization devoted to promoting education, historic preservation and patriotism. Membership is open to women 18 and older.

The event is free and open to the public.

Members will be on hand to answer questions about the DAR, how to research ancestry and provide tips for filling out DAR application papers. There will be trained volunteer field genealogists on hand to help with applications. Participants should bring any documentation with them.

Membership in the DAR honors and preserves the legacy of Patriot ancestor, according to a news release.

“More than 200 years ago, American Patriots fought and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today. As a member of DAR, through participation in the society’s various programs and activities, members continue this legacy by actively supporting historic preservation, promotion of education and patriotic endeavors,” it notes.

Chili, bake sale Saturday

at Bloomingdale Town Hall

BLOOMINGDALE — A take-out only chili supper will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Bloomingdale Town Hall.

Chili will be available by the pint or quart. Cost is by donation. There also will be a bake sale. Proceeds will go toward holiday celebrations. The fundraiser is being sponsored by the Make A Difference Committee.

Country Friends announces

weekend entertainment

COLLIERS — Country Friends will host Ken Husk and the Country Hoedown Round and Square Dance Band on Friday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Police Lodge Road, Colliers.

Sands of Time will entertain on Saturday, Veterans Day.

The doors open at 6 p.m., the program starts at 7 p.m., and the hall closes at 10 p.m. for both events. There is a $5 cover charge per person.

Retired Air Force Maj. Loretta Kendall will be the keynote speaker for the group’s Veterans Day service.

Monday will be open mic night. Doors open at 4 p.m.; the covered-dish meal served at 5 p.m. with participants encouraged to bring a covered dish; and open mic begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m.

There is no cover charge on Monday, but donations are appreciated. Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christian friendship and brotherly love through music. All proceeds go to charity.

Quarter auction Sunday

at Brooke High School

WELLSBURG — Brooke High School cheerleaders are hosting a quarter auction Sunday in Cafeteria A at Brooke High School to help raise money for new uniforms and for the state competition in Charleston.

Admission is $5, which includes one paddle. Additional paddles will be available for $1.

Doors open at 1 p.m., and the auction starts at 2 p.m. The event will include more than 25 vendors and crafters, and concessions also will be available.
