Toronto Sunrise Seniors

planning two fall trips

TORONTO — President Barbara Pritts welcomed members to the Sept. 7 meeting of the Toronto Sunrise Seniors held at the Roosevelt center.

Pritts gave the blessing for the meal. Following dinner, Marlene Garrett sold tickets for the 50-50 drawing won by Bob Deku and Jay Smith.

Pritts thanked the kitchen committee for their service and led in opening exercises. Secretary Laura Sheets conducted the roll call of officers and read the minutes of the previous meeting. Treasurer Judy Sabol gave the financial report while Social Secretary Nina Kavanagh recognized members with an early September birthday or anniversary. Members with health concerns were mentioned so that cards could be mailed.

The group is planning two trips in the late fall — a trip to Amish country to see “Christmas in Paradise” on Nov. 29 and a trip to Lincoln Park in Midland on Dec. 16 to see “Miracle on 34th Street.”

In other business, several members received free shower heads because they previously agreed to participate in a grant opportunity between the city of Toronto and Ohio AEP and Columbia Gas. In order to qualify for the grant, 78 households with a gas water heater agreed to use more efficient shower heads provided by Columbia Gas.

The group also voted to participate in a costume meeting on Oct 26. Ruth White explained that the Christmas dinner would be held Dec. 1 in the Karaffa Elementary School Commons Area.

Hank Sheets was recognized as member of the month. Members played bingo and scat. Bingo winners included Bonnie Wilson, Betty Mossor, Marlene Garrett, Judy Sabol, Sharon Grim, Gloria Howard, Barbara Pritts, Frank Marino, Hank Sheets, Paul Zink, Jay Smith, Beth Clark, and Sharen Peters. Scat winners were Gloria Howard, Helen Lindsay, Carolyn McCart, Mary Lou and Bob Deku and Nancy Bodrog.

The next meeting will be held Friday.
