Foundation makes award

Leia’s Kids, a locally based nonprofit providing hope and support to area children and their families battling childhood cancer, made its fourth award since having been established in 2017 by two-time cancer survivor Leia Hunt, 18, of Bloomingdale. Leia’s Kids provides direct financial assistance and made a $1,000 award recently to Mara Keenan, a 5-year-old fighting leukemia since April. Any child up to age 17 actively undergoing cancer treatment and living in the Ohio Valley corridor qualifies. The process begins via an e-mail sent to leiaskids.org. With Mara are Lucia Hunt, right, foundation representative, and Tammy Keenan of Toronto, Mara’s mother. “We are thankful to our community donors to be able to make this happen,” Hunt said. “We are actively seeking donors, since we are dependent upon them.” To contact Leia’s Kids, e-mail leiaskids@gmail.com or call (740) 381-0124. The mailing address is P.O. Box 2211, Wintersville OH 43910.
