Annual Holiday Expo Dec. 8-9

at Greater Zion Temple

STEUBENVILLE — The fifth-annual Holiday Expo will be held Dec. 8 and 9 at Greater Zion Temple Family Worship Center, located at 500 N. Fifth St.

The times are from noon to 6 p.m. on Dec. 8 and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 9.

After-school Blast meeting

Monday at Wellsburg church

WELLSBURG — First Presbyterian Church of Wellsburg, located at 901 Charles St., will host its after-school December Blast meeting on Monday.

Starting time is between 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., and continues until 5:45 p.m.

There will be a meal and a Bible lesson on the Christmas story. Sending Christmas cards to the elderly and ill will be another activity.

Special guest Marvin Whiteman will lead the group in a Christmas singalong along with other children’s Bible songs.

Mark Statler, Roger Hoard

concert performances set

Longtime friends, musicians and Ohio Valley natives Mark Statler and Roger Hoard have joined their talents once again for several upcoming special Christmas concerts.

All concerts are free with love offerings taken to cover concert expenses with the remainder of the offerings to help a friend of Statler’s who had a massive brain bleed and strokes, according to a news release. Joining the two will be Dan Weber of Woodsfield.

The concert schedule includes:

¯ Thursday, 7 p.m., Living Water Baptist Church, 37453 5th Ave., Sardis, Ohio;

¯ Dec. 9, 6 p.m., Century Farms Barn, 1121 Canton Road, Carrollton, behind Days Inn/Ponderosa Steakhouse;

¯ Dec. 13, 7 p.m., Giffin Park Church, 280 E. Main St., St. Clairsville, home of Alternative Home Health;

¯ Dec. 16, 7 p.m., Jewett Wildcat Center, 117 Main St., Jewett, Jewett High School gymnasium; and

¯ Dec. 20, 7 p.m., Wintersville United Methodist Church, 702 Main St., Wintersville.

Morning Star Baptist Church

to install new pastor Dec. 9

WEIRTON — Installation services will be held Dec. 9 for the Rev. James E. Brown, pastor-elect of Morning Star Baptist Church, located at 3124 Weir Ave.

The Rev. Thomas Mitchell, associate minister of Covenant Church, Pittsburgh, will deliver the 11 a.m. sermon, and the Rev. George A. Williams, pastor, First Baptist Church, West Mifflin, Pa., and his choir and congregation will be the guests at the 3 p.m. service along with other program participants.

It is open to the public.

Point Pleasant Ladies Aide

makes various donations

WEIRTON — President Carolyn Allison welcomed 26 members and four guests to the November dinner meeting of the Point Pleasant Ladies Aide.

Guests included Anna Raines, Bud Simmons, Alex Staub, and Pastor Bob Staub, who offered the prayer.

The meal was catered by Joyce Littell.

Following the dinner, Nancy Wright introduced Alex Staub and Simmons, who provided a musical program. Staub played the keyboard, and Simmons played the dulcimer.

As devotions for the evening, Allison reviewed the “Let Your Light Shine” 2018 theme, read a poem and prayer and led the members in singing “This Little Light of Mine.”

To begin the business meeting, Secretary Nancy Conkle read the October minutes, and Treasurer Carla Fryer presented the financial report. Betty Glenn reported on cards she had sent during the month.

Members brought personal items to be placed in baskets for the residents at the Stone Pear Nursing Home and the Pepperberry Assisted Living facilities in Chester.

Donations were made to the Christ Tree at Point Pleasant Methodist Church and to Shop with a Cop.

Allison, Conkle and Fryer will remain in their elected positions for 2019. Vice President Lisa Subrick decided to resign in order to give someone else the position. Tracy Lemley was elected to it. Nancy Wright will remain as program chairman, and Glenn will continue to send cards.

Allison reported that Raines has joined the group as a new member. Joys and concerns were shared.

The next meeting will be held March 13.

Annual cookie walk Dec. 8

at Christ UMC in Weirton

WEIRTON — The annual cookie walk at Christ United Methodist Church, which has become a holiday tradition with many in Weirton, will be held in the fellowship hall of the church at 3598 Pennsylvania Ave. on Weirton Heights from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 8.

“Many in the congregation use their favorite recipes to bake dozens of holiday cookies that are displayed on tables throughout the hall,” a church spokesperson noted. “Patrons roam through the selections and pick out what they will need for the holidays at $6 per dozen or call ahead for pickup.”

There also will be a variety of soups for takeout at $3 per pint or $5 per quart.

Two Ridges to host tree

light-up, Ron Retzer concert

WINTERSVILLE — Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, 1085 Canton Road, will hold its 10th-annual Christmas tree light-up and Ron Retzer concert on Sunday. The tree light-up is at 6:30 p.m., and the free concert begins at 7 p.m. Both are open to the public.

at Oakland Presbyterian

WEIRTON — A Christmas concert featuring special guest Sheldon Mencer will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Oakland Presbyterian Church, Wylie Ridge Road, Weirton. Refreshments will be served following the concert. Host pastor is Randy Krebs.

Cadiz church hosting

two holiday events

CADIZ — Roger Hoard and Dan Jones of the band Hoard and Jones will be performing a Christmas concert at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz, 154 W. Market St., beginning at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Admission is free; however, an offering will be taken with all proceeds going to the church.

The church will be hosting its annual Christmas choir festival on Dec. 9, beginning at 7 p.m.

Harrison County church choirs will be performing Christmas hymns and music. There will be a social hour in the fellowship hall following the event.
