‘Polar Express,’ gingerbread

house-making on Saturday

WEIRTON — The Mary H. Weir Public Library will show “The Polar Express,” rated G, at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the library’s activity room, located at 3442 Main St.

A family-friendly activity, gingerbread house building, will follow the movie. Reservations are strongly recommended as there will be limited room for the gingerbread house activity, a library spokesperson noted. Those planning to attend only the movie need not make reservations. Admission to this event is free, as are hot cocoa and popcorn. Patrons who would like to bring their own soft drinks or snacks are welcome to do so. The handicapped-accessible doors on Walnut Street will open at 12:45 p.m.

Toronto Senior Citizens

have Christmas dinner

TORONTO — The Toronto Senior Citizens held their Christmas dinner at the Stratton Municipal Hall on Dec. 13. Guests included Mayor John and Tracey Parker, Jeff and Becky Foster, Don and Cheryl Clarke, all of whom were thanked for their donations to the club. Tony and Mary Colabella also were guests.

Mary Alice Meyer gave the blessing for the catered dinner by the Brickers. Entertainment was provided by Rich Grimm. Each member brought a dozen cookies to be given to the police and fire departments and TEMS in appreciation of their service to Toronto.

Terry Elson won the gingerbread house. Pat Balser won the 50/50. Doris Matyas was honored with a basket of gifts by Judy Bickler and members. Bickler was honored with a gift from the members. Other gifts to members by Bickler went to Nancy Stanak, Lola Swanagan, Fran Sheets, Joyce Dobbs, Pat Richardson, Joyce Zimmerman, Rosemory Bonofine. Terry Elson, Mary Alice Meyer, Kenny Woodward, Terry Mamula, Barbara Losey and Carole Eddy. Winners of door prize poinsettias were Kathleen Elliott, Skip Stanak, Sharon Sims, Mary Colabello, Pat Balser, David Krause, Lester Grimes, Mary K. Petras, Mary Ann Parker, Joyce Zimmerman, Laura Van Dyke, Mary Scott, Jean Barker, Arlene Zahniser and Bucky Sims. Winning door prize gifts were Pam Dunlope, Tony Farrister, Lester Grimes, Dick Balser, Mary Alice Meyer, Pat Richardson, Tim Elson, Emma Spicer, Carole Eddy, Chuck Barker, Bob Richardson, Mel Simpson, Fran Sheets, Karen Krause, Judy Bickler, Dolly Robinson, Mary Ann Smith, Frank Vostatek and Ken Woodward. The next meeting is Jan. 10.
