Ohio Valley Chorale to resume rehearsals for spring concert, beginning Monday at First Westminster
STEUBENVILLE — The Ohio Valley Chorale will resume rehearsals for its spring concert and welcomes returning and new participants.
Rehearsals kick off Monday with practice time from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at First Westminster Presbyterian Church at 235 N. Fourth St.
“There is no cost to participate in the chorale, but we do ask singers to pay $25 for the purchase of their music,” explained Amanda Abrams, a co-founder of the Ohio Valley Chorale.
All singers ages 15 and up are welcome, and no audition is required. An ability to read choral music is strongly encouraged.
The spring concert is set for 3 p.m. on May 5 at First Westminster Presbyterian Church. “We are performing several orchestrated pieces by John Rutter, including the ‘Requiem’ along with other Easter season sacred choral pieces,” Abrams said. “We intend to contract a full paid orchestra again for this concert. We will include professional musicians from Pittsburgh, Wheeling, Morgantown and our local area as well. Our main cost for this performance, as with all others, is for the professional orchestra. We also will be holding this concert as free and open to the public in order to continue to include as many in our audience as possible,” she said.
“We had a tremendous crowd for our Christmas concert,” Abrams said. “We estimate well over 600 people in the audience. Seventy-five singers performed in the Ohio Valley Chorale along with 13 singers from the Franciscan University Chorale under the direction of George Melhorn. We were accompanied by a 40-piece professional orchestra with musicians coming from Pittsburgh, Wheeling, Morgantown and the local area,” she continued.
“The response of the community is truly overwhelming and humbling. We are so grateful for this opportunity to provide beautiful music to the community and give local singers the opportunity to share their musical gift,” Abrams said.
“We are accepting donations for the sponsorship of our upcoming 2019 concert season, which will include a spring and Christmas concert,” she said, noting donations may be mailed to Ohio Valley Chorale, 631 Canton Road, Wintersville, OH 43953.
