Community Bread Basket faced with increased need

-- Contributed

The board of directors of Community Bread Basket, in its effort to feed the hungry of Brooke and Hancock counties, is working on ways to increase monetary donations as well as nonperishable food. With the need increasing each month and donations declining, the monthly board meeting focused on ways to increase contributions. Larry Barker suggested that board members solicit their respective churches, explaining the increased need. Tara Sheperd, program administrator, said the need increases each week. “We also need more volunteers,” Sheperd said. Individuals or groups interested in volunteering can come to 3501 West St. any day of the week or call (304) 748-7595 for information. Board members include, seated, from left, Pat Cotherman, United Methodist Church; Sheperd; Kathy Maher, St. Paul Catholic Church; and standing, Deacon Vince Olenick, St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church; Peggy Makricostas, All Saints Greek Orthodox Church; Jeanie Montgomery, Weirton Covenant Church; Larry Barker, Family of God Church; and Jim Pauchnik, Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
