Funseekers hear holiday

report, need for officers

STEUBENVILLE — President Dave Krause welcomed members and guests to the Funseekers’ first meeting of 2019, which was held Feb. 6 at Scaffidi’s Restaurant in Steubenville.

Krause introduced and welcomed guests Katie O’Connell and Donna Lyons.

Members were encouraged to send cards to ill members.

January and February birthdays and anniversaries were acknowledged.

Opening ceremonies were led by Joann Bugin and included the reading “God Must Love Me.”

Dinner was served to 62 members and guests.

Following dinner, several games of bingo were played. Bingo winners were Dino Rossi, Char Pearce, Pat Rossi, JoAnn Mulrooney, Martha Veritec and Donna Balzano.

The business meeting included a report on the holiday party held in December at Scaffidi’s. The toy drive for the Table of Hope and the Chinese auction were “very successful.” Members from the Table Of Hope attended to accept the donations of cash, gift cards and toys. Thanks to the generosity and support of area restaurants and businesses, every auction basket included gift cards for goods and services. When added to the donations from members of Funseeker’s, 13 baskets were awarded, raising nearly $500 for the treasury, it was noted.

Krause announced a nominating committee for new officers will be formed at the March meeting with the election of officers taking place at the July 3 meeting at Scaffidi’s. All office will need to be filled as the current officers are resigning to allow new voices to be heard. In addition, Chris Sklenar will be retiring as talent and menu planner, and a replacement will be needed in that case also.

The annual picnic has been moved from July to Aug. 18. The shelter at Follansbee Park has been rented.

They include: March 4, Meadows Casino and Tanger Outlets; April 11, Rivers Casino; April 27, “DOO WOP 17,” Capitol Theater with dinner; June 9, “Grease” at the Benedum with dinner at Gaetano’s; June 21, Sugarcreek; June 26-28, West Virginia Ride the Rails train experience; July 26, Hartville Festival; July 28, “Rock Of Ages” at the Benedum with dinner at Gaetano’s; Aug. 11, “Hello Dolly,” at the Benedum with dinner at Gaetano’s; Aug. 14-16, Lancaster, Pa., two shows and two dinners; Aug. 31, Italian Festival, Clarksburg, W.Va.; Sept. 16-21, Myrtle Beach; Sept. 25-27, Senaca Niagara; Oct. 4, Apple Festival, Franklin, Pa.; Nov. 10-11, Christmas in New York; and Dec. 1-2, the Greenbrier in West Virginia.
