Sapphire Sister honors

-- Contributed

The Alpha Tau Chapter (WV) of Alpha Delta Kappa, international honorary organization for women educators, held its February meeting at Trinity United Methodist Church in New Cumberland with Velda Icard, immediate past president, presiding. Chaplain Kathy Griffith read two Valentine’s Day stories from “The Secret Place.” A special ceremony was held to honor member Sherry Emery, left photo, center, as a Sapphire Sister. Icard, right, and Griffith, left, conducted the ceremony in recognition of Emery’s 35 years of service to Alpha Delta Kappa. Treasurer Fran Jones gave the financial report and discussed ideas for the ways and means projects. Correspondence was read from Weirton Medical Center Breast Care, thanking the group for its donation. Committee reports were given. Members participated in a silent auction with proceeds donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Emery and Michelle McHaffie served as hostesses. The March 12 meeting will be a dinner to be held at EJ’s in Chester.
