Softite donates toward breast cancer awareness

-- Contributed

Softite Community Federal Credit Union in Mingo Junction has selected Women in Action Against Cancer Coalition of Jefferson County for a donation from its breast cancer awareness campaign held in October 2018. The goal of the campaign is to support and help ease the financial burden of screening, allowing patients to focus on their well-being. The Martins Ferry and St. Clairsville locations of the credit union do the same for Belmont County, donating their proceeds to the Breast Cancer Health Fund. “The donations are from credit union members,” said Pam Fankhouser, CEO of Softite Community Federal Credit Union. The credit union then matches what was collected by members and donates the proceeds. Employees wear pink T-shirts on Fridays in October and also bake cookies to give to members for awareness of the cause. WIAACC is a community-based nonprofit organization started as a result of the high incidence and mortality rates of certain cancers in the Jefferson County area. The coalition focuses on increasing awareness, providing education, promoting early detection and prevention of cancer and providing financial assistance with breast and cervical screening in Jefferson County. For information on the coalition, call (740) 632-1144 or e-mail Janetsharpe@yahoo.com. Far left, Barbara Roman of Softite presented the check to Janet Sharpe, coalition co-chair. Also on hand were, seated, from left, Tammy Lyles, Jackie Gibson, Janice Fullwood and Grace Abernethy; and standing, Pat Butler, Cindy Misogiane, Linda Bain, Jean Lamatrice, Marlene Lesnansky, Joanne Pedersen, Sharon Kirtdoll, Janet Pillar, Jean John and Kelli Knight. Softite Community Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial institution, owned by the members of the credit union and is located at 100 Longview Ave. in Mingo Junction.
