Tick awareness program: New ticks and what to look for

CADIZ — Dr. Scott Pendleton will conduct a tick awareness program on March 20 at Puskarich Public Library, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The library is located at 200 E. Market St.

The free program will include tick identification; information on the Lone Star tick whose bite can trigger red meat allergies; tick bite prevention; risks to humans and pets; and proper tick removal.

SOAR meeting, luncheon

scheduled for March 26

WEIRTON — The next meeting and luncheon for SOAR, an acronym for Steelworker of Active Retirees, and friends, will be held at 11 a.m. on March 26, at the Greater Weirton Senior Center, 3425 Main St. in downtown Weirton.

Anyone interested in what SOAR is all about is welcome to attend. Speakers will be announced at a later date. Reservations must be in by Tuesday at the latest and made at the USW Local on West Street in Weirton by calling (304) 748-8080 or by contacting Lynn Bish at (304) 797-9785.

Urban Mission announces

free clothing distribution

STEUBENVILLE — Urban Mission Ministries will be holding a four-day free clothing distribution next week.

It will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday through Thursday at the War Memorial Building, located at 423 North St.

“We have been blessed with donations of clothes and will be opening our doors once again to distribute them free of charge,” a promotional flier notes.

Children: Story Time, for children ages 5-10, will be held on March 21 at 5:30 p.m. Participants need to register in advance.

Adults: Book club will meet for discussion on Monday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Call to join.

Veterans Service Office

to be closed Monday, Tuesday

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Veterans Service Office will be closed Monday and Tuesday, due to building renovation.

The DAV Transportation Network through the Veterans Service Office, however, will still be in operation. “If you do not already have a seat scheduled, walk-on space will still be available on a first-come, first-served basis,” notes Schelley Brooks, executive director.

Wellsburg Elks to host

annual wine-tasting social

WELLSBURG — The Wellsburg Elks will hold their annual wine-tasting social from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 30 at the Wellsburg Elks Lodge, located at 834 Charles St.

The cost is $15 per person, and the event will feature wines made by members of the Tri-State Winemakers Club.
