Mount Zion plans pastoral

anniversary celebration

STEUBENVILLE — Mount Zion Baptist Church, 221 N. Seventh St., is planning the pastor’s second anniversary celebration in honor of Bishop Jermaine V. Moore Sr.

It will be held March 22-24 with the three-day celebration kicking off with “The Bishop’s Ball,” a black-tie event to be held beginning at 8 p.m. at Froehlich’s Classic Corner in Steubenville. It will include liturgical dance, a special guest soloist, dinner, gospel jazz and a message from the Rev. Ivory Jones of Cleveland, president of the United Missionary Baptist State Convention of Ohio. Tickets are available for $35. There is limited seating.

On March 23, beginning at 6 p.m., there will be an appreciation music concert at the church.

A special church worship service beginning at 4 p.m. March 24 will feature the Rev. Curtis Johnson of Sandusky, vice president of the United Missionary Baptist State Convention of Ohio.

St. Paul’s Church in Weirton

holding fish frys on Friday

WEIRTON — St. Paul’s Church in Weirton will once again sponsor a fish fry every Friday during Lent and continuing through Good Friday, April 19.

The expanded hours this year will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the fish will be from Coleman’s Fish Market in Wheeling.

Featured will be fried fish, baked cod, breaded shrimp and peel-and-eat shrimp. Sides will include french fries, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese and “our beloved ‘Haluski Ladies’ will make their famous haluski (noodles, cabbage and onions),” a spokesperson said. The fish fry will be held in the St. Paul School cafeteria located on Walnut Street. Patrons can eat in or get takeout, and there will be delivery for orders of more than $20. Follansbee church to host

jam session on Thursday

FOLLANSBEE — Calvary Baptist Church, located at 425 Rockdale Road, will host a jam session on Thurday, beginning at 7 p.m.

All are welcome to participate and bring an instrument for a time of Christian and country music.

Refreshments will be served.

St. Lucy’s in Yorkville

having Polish dinner fundraiser

YORKVILLE — St. Lucy Parish in Yorkville will host a Polish dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 7 in the church hall.

The meal will include homemade pierogi with potato and cheese, kielbasa, cabbage and a roll for a $10 donation. Desserts and beverages will be available for purchase. Patrons can dine in or get takeout.

Frozen homemade pierogi will be available for sale at the dinner for $10 a dozen.

The fundraiser also will include a 50-50 drawing with tickets for $1 each or six for five.

Richmond UMW members

get update on spring events

RICHMOND — President Marge Andres led the “Prayer and Self-Denial” program when the Richmond United Methodist Women met Feb. 28 in the church social hall.

Her topic, “How Do We Create a Thriving Generation,” illustrated how the organization’s giving benefits women and children around the world. Readers were Joyce Proffitt,Twyla Pollock and Barbara Grimm. The scripture was Mark 10:13-16.

Andres opened the business session by leading the members in reciting the purpose of UMW. Reports were given by Proffitt and Grimm. Vice President Gloria Mercer reviewed dates to remember, including April 11 Spring District meeting on April 11 at St.Clairsville. Members were reminded to bring their ” 2 cents a week” money to this. The group discussed the menu for the April 9 luncheon it serves as part of hosting the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association meeting.

The UMW will celebrate its 150th birthday on April 25.

Andres read from the prayer calendar. The mission focus was Bulgaria Mission Witness program with human trafficking the district focus. . H,District focus Human Trafficking. She read two articles from Response — “Learn” and “Live,” both written in 1908.

Mercer closed with prayer. Grimm served as hostess.

Hill Top Presbyterian Church

holding lasagna dinner

TORONTO — Hill Top Presbyterian Church is hosting its first dinner of the year. It will be held from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The menu includes lasagna, salad, bread, desserts and beverages. Patrons can eat in or get takeout. Donations will be accepted.

Tri-State Christian Academy

will hold consignment sale

WEIRTON — The Tri-State Christian Academy Kids consignment sale is gearing up for a three-day stretch in April.

It will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 11; from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 12; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 13 at the R.J. Bush Center, directly behind the Mercy Baptist Church located at 3474 Pennsylvania Ave.

The sale is held twice yearly in the spring and fall and features gently used and new children’s items from more than 70 consignors. There will be approximately 30,000 items available at the sale.

Saturday is half-off day, and anything that does not have a hole punched in the tag is half off.

organize prayer walk April 27

NEW CUMBERLAND — The churches of New Cumberland invite area residents to pray for family, friends, jobs, finances, government and community at their annual prayer walk, which will be held April 27, beginning at 10 a.m.

Participants can start at the Hancock County Savings Bank on Ridge Avenue in New Cumberland or at the South Chester Street ball fields. The prayer walk will end at the New Cumberland gazebo at 11:30 a.m. with music and prayer.
