Wells Township Seniors

to have meeting Friday

BRILLIANT — The Wells Township Senior Citizens will meet at 1 p.m. Friday at the Wells Township Community Senior Center on Steuben Street, above the library.

The group is open to residents who are 50 and older. There is an annual dues fee of $5.

Lunch will be pizza and salad. Anyone wanting to brings desserts is welcome to do so. The gathering will include door prizes and a 50-50 drawing. There will be bingo after the meeting.

Country Friends announces

weekend entertainment

COLLIERS — Country Friends will host the Vincent’s Stone Street Station dance band on Friday and Light Touch on Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Police Lodge Road, Colliers.

The doors open at 6 p.m., the dance starts at 7 p.m., and the hall closes at 10 p.m. for both events. There is a $5 cover charge per person on dance nights.

Open mic is Monday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the covered-dish meal is served at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. There is no cover charge on Mondays, but donations are appreciated.

STEUBENVILLE — The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will hold the following programs and activities at its various locations:

Adena Branch, (740) 546-3782

Children: Play and Learn the Alphabet, for parents with children ages 2-6, will be held on April 1 at 11:15 a.m. Children will play with letter-learning toys that help promote early literacy skills.

Babygarten, for parents with children birth to 2, will be held on April 4 at 11:15 a.m. This is a lap-sit program to share books, rhymes and songs. Babygarten helps with language development and other early literacy skills.

Children are invited to make a craft on April 4, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Play and Learn the Alphabet will be held at 11:15 a.m. on April 2.

Adults: Learn how to access newspapers worldwide at the library’s Newspaper Archive class on April 3, beginning at 6 p.m. Registration is required.

Children: Tot Time, for parents with children ages 2-4, will be held on Tuesdays, April 23, 30 and May 7 at 10 a.m.; Wednesdays, April 3, 24, May 1 and 8 at 6 p.m.; and Thursdays, April 4, 25, May 2 and 9 at 11 a.m.

Antonio Meucci Lodge

meeting on April 9

WEIRTON — The Antonio Meucci Lodge No. 2506 Sons of Italy met March 12 at Undo’s in Weirton. Tony LaRosa read the invocation, and Jim Cerra led in opening exercises, followed by dinner.

Reports were given by Secretary Rita Orler, and President Regina Truax gave the treasurer’s report and welcomed guests Linda Heilman, Emily Waggle and Sue Sakora. Truax announced that OSIA West Virginia Grand Lodge Regional Meeting will be held April 13 in Morgantown and encouraged to attend.

The birthdays of several members were acknowledged.

Several bus tours were announced, including: May 19, Letterman dinner show, Palace Theater, Greensburg, Pa.; June 9, “Grease,” Benedum Theater, Pittsburgh; June 21, Sugarcreek; June 26-28, West Virginia Ride the Rails, Wild and Wonderful Excursion; July 26, Hartville Marketplace and Flea Market, Hartville, Ohio; July 28, “Rock of Ages,” Benedum Theater, Pittsburgh; and Aug. 11, “Hello Dolly,” Benedum Theater, Pittsburgh. The Undo’s gift certificates were won by Diane Pastoric and Larry Purks. JoAnn Magnone won the 50-50 drawings. Table prizes of paper towels, dish soap, popcorn and cleaning supplies were awarded to each table at the end of the card game.

Wellsburg Elks to host

wine-tasting social Saturday

WELLSBURG — The Wellsburg Elks will hold their annual wine-tasting social from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday at the Wellsburg Elks Lodge, located at 834 Charles St.

The cost is $15 per person, and the event will feature wines made by members of the Tri-State Winemakers Club.

Friday fish frys continue at

St. Paul’s Church in Weirton

WEIRTON — St. Paul’s Church in Weirton will once again sponsor a fish fry every Friday during Lent, continuing through Good Friday, April 19.

The expanded hours this year are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the fish will be from Coleman’s Fish Market in Wheeling.

Featured will be fried fish, baked cod, breaded shrimp and peel-and-eat shrimp. Sides will include french fries, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese and “our beloved ‘Haluski Ladies’ will make their famous haluski (noodles, cabbage and onions),” a spokesperson said.

The fish fry will be held in the St. Paul School cafeteria located on Walnut Street in downtown Weirton. Patrons can eat in or get takeout, and there will be delivery for orders of more than $20.

Final Farmers Breakfast

series set for April 19

STEUBENVILLE — The Ohio State University Extension will host the final program in its Farmers’ Breakfast Series from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on April 19 at Murrays Restaurant in Wintersville.

“What You Need to Know about Farm Liability” will feature Peggy Kirk Hall, OSU ag law specialist, as guest speaker. She will talk about what landowners in Ohio need to know about liability and mitigating risk on their property.

There is no cost for the presentation and discussions, but participants cover their own breakfast cost. Pre-registration is required by contacting the OSU Extension office by phone at (740) 264-2212 or by e-mail to lyon.194@osu.edu one week before each session.

OSU Extension will provide accommodations to handicapped persons needing assistance to participate in Extension programs. If you require accommodations to attend programs or to access information, contact the Extension office.

MINGO JUNCTION — The Mingo Junction Knights of Columbus is holding Friday fish frys. They will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays through April 5.
