STEUBENVILLE — Just in time for a special day on the calendar, Macy’s Mall at Robinson presents Steubenville Mother’s Day Gala, an opportunity for attendees to enjoy shopping, refreshments, makeovers, drawings and a mother-daughter fashion show.

And it helps the Grand Theater Restoration Project to boot, according to Francesca Carinci, a board member of that and gala event coordinator.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Historic Fort Steuben Visitor Center, located at 120 S. Third St.

“On Saturday at the Visitor Center, Macy’s is coming back to town, bringing Mother’s Day shoppers hometown access,” Carinci explained.

“Macy’s of Robinson is bringing a mobile Macy’s store to Steubenville for the day. Macy’s will have a cosmetic counter and give free makeovers,” she said.

“There will be refreshments and a fashion show at 2 p.m. Macy’s will have online ordering available if anyone wants to order clothing or cosmetics,” she added.

Macy’s also will have drawings for gift baskets containing gift cards, according to Carinci.

Proceeds will benefit the Grand Theater Restoration Project.

There will be a mother-daughter fashion show featuring local models in spring attire, and, weather permitting, the fashion show will be on the decks at the Visitor Center, Carinci noted

Information about the event will be available during First Friday on the Fourth as Macy’s will have a booth presence at it Friday and be promoting the gala. For information, call (740) 284-8008.

In explaining how the fundraiser came to be, Carinci said, “Macy’s called me and said they wanted to do something for their Steubenville customers, and they wanted to do something for the Grand Theater because they had always been a big supporter to help the Grand Theater continue with the restoration. When Macy’s was at our mall, they used to sponsor a fashion show yearly to benefit the Grand. They wanted to do something on that order, so we thought we would take advantage of the Visitor Center, and they came down and decided to turn it into a miniature Macy’s for the day,” Carinci noted.

“They wanted to take advantage of Mother’s Day coming up to bring some shopping opportunities to Steubenville,” she added.

“I think that Macy’s is making a convenient stop for everyone shopping for Mother’s Day gifts, because we haven’t had the availability of having a local Macy’s, and they’re trying to accommodate everybody because there are a lot of people from Steubenville who still go to Robinson, and they thought this would be something for those people and their clientele,” Carinci said.

“They are featuring Mother’s Day, but they’re going to have some men’s clothing, too. We will have a token male in the show, because they don’t want to forget about the guys. This is for everybody wanting to shop for mom,” Carinci said.

As for work on the downtown theater at 121 S. Fourth St., Carinci noted, “The Grand has been making great progress, and the plaster work has begun. No one ever thought we would get this far, but it is happening. It has been a huge undertaking, and Macy’s has always supported the restoration.”
