Country Friends detail
COLLIERS — Country Friends will host Hank Vincent’s Stone Street Station on Friday and the Shindiggers on Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Police Lodge Road, Colliers.
The doors open at 6 p.m., the dance starts at 7 p.m., and the hall closes at 10 p.m. for both events. There is a $5 cover charge per person on dance nights.
Open mic is Monday with an Easter party. The doors open at 4 p.m., the covered-dish meal is served at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. There is no cover charge on Mondays, but donations are appreciated.
Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christian friendship and brotherly love through music. All proceeds go to charity.

Chicken barbecue dinner
Sunday at Jewett VFD
JEWETT — The Jewett Volunteer Fire Department will host a fundraiser chicken barbecue dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The meal includes half a chicken, salad bar, baked potato, baked beans and dessert. All dinners are $10. Patrons can dine in or get take-out. The phone number is (740) 946-2211.
Women of the Moose to hold
salad luncheon on May 18
WELLSBURG — The Wellsburg Women of the Moose will be holding their sixth-annual salad luncheon on May 18, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, located at 844 Main St.
Entertainment will be provided by Marvin Whiteman. The event also will include a Chinese auction.

Harrison County Retired
Teachers to meet May 17
CADIZ — The Harrison County Retired Teachers Association members held their first meeting of 2019 on April 26 at the Cadiz Presbyterian Church.
Guest speaker Mike Petrella of Ohio Valley Natural Relief in Wintersville gave a presentation on medical marijuana.
The next meeting will be held May 17 at the Ourant School House. Speakers will be Kelly McChristy of the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio, who will be speaking on health care coverage, and Bea Lehner from the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
The association’s meetings begin at 10 a.m. with lunch at noon.
The Sept. 20 meeting will be at Deersville United Methodist Church. The guest speaker will be a representative of the OSU Extension Office. The Oct. 18 meeting will be held at the Cadiz Church of Christ. Sue Adams, speaker, will discuss abandoned towns of Harrison County and tell a few ghost stories.
Teachers who taught in Harrison County or live in Harrison County and taught elsewhere are welcome to attend the meetings.
New Cumberland Lions
schedule May 14 meeting
NEW CUMBERLAND — President Tom Stiles presided at a recent meeting of the New Cumberland Lions Club where Rick Tinsky offered the prayer and Russ Flanigan led in opening exercises.
Stiles introduced guests Derek Stickles and Tanya Stickles as potential members.
Bob Manypenny reported on the paper drive that was held April 13. Pam Stiles scheduled the Adopt a Highway cleanup for April 27. The zone meeting was set for April 24 at Leng’s restaurant in Newell.
In old business, Joyce Young suggested that the board meeting be returned to the third Tuesday of the month. Discussion on the idea will continue, it was decided. The penny auction also was discussed.
The next meeting will be held May 14 in the city building.

Class of 1984 plans reunion
NEW CUMBERLAND — The Oak Glen High School Class of 1984 will hold its 35-year reunion from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on July 27 at the East Liverpool Yacht Club, Ferry Road, Chester.
Music will be provided by DJ Sailboat Steve, and dinner will be catered by John Hale, chef of Hot Shots.
Tickets are $20 per person, and the registration deadline is July 6. Checks can be sent to Mary Beth Grimes, 445 Florida Ave., Chester, WV 26034.
