CADIZ WOMEN’S GOLF LEAGUE
Opening day for the Cadiz Women’s Golf League was May 1 with 24 members ready to swing.
Play of the day was a scramble with first place won by the team of Kathy Newburn, Jane Galigher and Pat Beamer with a score of 76. Second place went to the team of Paula Hope, Denise Augustine and Kim Ochenbine, scoring a 77. Third place was a tie between the team of Nep Rowland, Carol Lepic and Cathy Jones and the team of Janis Cook, Marsh Porter and Judy Crawshaw, with a score of 78.
Skill hole winners were: Kathy Newburn, longest drive on hole No. 3 and closest to the pin on hole No. 4 with a second shot. Tracy Adams was closest to the pin on par 3 hole No. 11 and closest to the zig-zag line on hole No. 18. Carol Lepic took closest to the flamingo on hole No. 9.
After golf, a social hour and dinner were held, followed by a business meeting chaired by league President Brenda Hartley. Several new members were introduced, and plans were made for an invitational on June 11.
The Cadiz Ladies Golf League played “Bing-Bango-Bongo” on May 8. Hostesses were Kim Oscheinbein and Debbie Nameth.
Winners for play of the day were: Bonnie Beetham; and Roberta Cireddu and Kathy Newburn, tied with 24 points each.
Cireddu won first place for least putts. Beetham, Kathy Smith, Tracy Amos and Newburn tied for second place for least putts. The tie was broken by card and Newburn won second place for least putts.
Birdies were recorded by Lori DeFallo, Joann Hardman, Newburn, Brenda Hartley and Smith.
Cireddu and Newburn recorded a chip-in each. The next play is low net.
MOUNTAINEER WOMEN’S 18-HOLE
AND NINE-HOLE LEAGUES
The Thursday morning 18-hole golf league had its first round May 2.
The group tees off promptly at 8:15 a.m., and dues are $30. Officers for the year are Mary Ann Bainbridge, Elaine Minda and Janet Stukins.
Results from play were Mishal Hawthorne winning first flight low gross; Elaine Minda, first flight low net; Erin Ankrum, second flight low gross; and Dotty Virtue, second flight low net.
Proximities were won by Elaine Minda, hole No. 14 closest to the pins; Lori Szymanek, hole No. 17 closest to the pin in two2 and low putts; and Cathy Ralston, longest putt on hole No. 4.
Birdies were recorded by Elaine Minda on hole No. 2; Lori Szymanek, hole No. 5; and Janet Stukins, hole No. 10.
The Monday Night Women’s nine-hole league has had two opening weeks. Anyone interested in joining is welcome. Players must be there by 5:15 p.m., and tee-off is at 5:30 p.m. Dues are $25. For information, call the golf course and leave a number.
April 29 results:
Game winner was Mary Ann Bainbridge. Runners-up were Donna Burch and Rachel McCombs.
May 6 results:
Game winner was Rachel McCombs. Runners-up were Mary Ann Bainbridge and Erin Ankrum.
Kathy Moore had a chip-in and a birdie on hole No. 121. Rachel McCombs won the 50-50 winner.
RED OAKS LADIES LEAGUE
The women of the Red Oaks Ladies League played the back nine on May 9. Yuko Atwell took first place. Tammy Koutsky came in second place, and Signa Findlay, third.
Koutsky took the skill prize for long drive on hole No. 12, and Atwell took the closest to the pin prize on hole No.15. Brenda McKloskey won the prize for low putts. Jill Nixon had the only chip-in.
All women are invited to play. Tee-off is every Monday, beginning at 5 p.m. Participants planning to play should call the golf course the day of play to sign up before 3:30 p.m. The number to call is (740) 944-1400.
TOWN AND COUNTRY
Town and Country Golf opened the season at Spring Hills on May 2 with medal play with mulligan.
Winners were: A flight, Wanda Retzer; B flight, Dora Elizaga; and C flight, Sondra Hyde and Rose Kaczmarek. Low putts was Laura Froehlich with a birdie on hole No. 9 by Retzer.
