New Cumberland Lions Club member Rick Tinsky, left, welcomed guest speaker Holden Smith as the presenter at the club’s recent meeting. Smith represented Helping Heroes, a center for veteran resources that includes transitional housing and supportive services for veteran families serving Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Ohio and Wetzel counties. Contact information includes the mailing address at 256 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, WV, 26041; the phone number at (304) 810-4291; the e-mail at hhpm@comcast.net; and the website at www.helpingheroesinc.org. First Vice President Joyce Young opened the meeting with a poem by Helen Steiner Rice, titled “A Memorial Day Prayer.” Tinsky offered the prayer, and Pam Stiles led the pledge of allegiance. A thank-you noted was received from Oak Glen High School for the donation made to the food service program. Members were asked to note the expiration date of their food handler cards, and those without the food handler card were reminded to apply for one. The meeting also included Young’s presentation of a silver centennial pin to Richard Blackwell.
