Volunteers help feed the hungry

With the increased need experienced by the Community Bread Basket in Weirton, more food must be purchased and donated. “The number of people seeking help continues to increase each month,” noted Tara Sheperd, CBB program administrator. “We could not survive without the dedicated volunteers who help out each week,” Sheperd said. Jim Pauchnik, board of directors member, said that 8,000 pounds of food was purchased this month, and the volunteers helped unload the truck, haul the food into the CBB distribution room and put it in storage until the regular Friday distribution day. Shown helping are, from left, Jim Fazalare of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church; Matthew Sirotnik and Eric Anderson, Brooke High students getting community service hours; Pastor Tim Colvin of Calvary Baptist Church in Follansbee; Mitch Sagan, Brooke High student; and Terry Cullinan. Individuals or groups interested in helping can visit the CBC at 3501 West St., Weirton, or call (304) 748-7595.
