Fundraiser spaghetti dinner
at Weirton American Legion
WEIRTON — The Weirton American Legion Post 10, 3140 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton, will be hosting a fundraiser spaghetti dinner from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 28.
A sock hop will follow with music by a DJ.

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library’s Crocheting Group will be meeting in the River Room of the Brooke County Library at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
The group is for adult beginners through experts. Those attending should bring their own supplies and projects. If someone needs help, experienced crocheting group members will be available to assist or instruct, according to a spokesperson.

Family movie night
to feature ‘Smallfoot’
FOLLANSBEE — The Follansbee Branch of the Brooke County Public Library will be showing the film “Smallfoot,” rated PG, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
“Smallfoot turns the Bigfoot legend upside down when a bright young Yeti finds something he thought didn’t exist–a human,” according to a release. “News of this ‘”smallfoot’ throws the simple Yeti community into an uproar over what else might be out there in the big world beyond their snowy village, in an all- new story about friendship, courage and the joy of discovery.”

Lou Holtz Life Improvement
Scholarship program detailed
EAST LIVERPOOL — Once again, the Lou Holtz/Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame will be offering the Lou Holtz Life Improvement Scholarship program for seniors in designated area high schools who plan to attend a two-year trade school.
The scholarship program has been administered through the facility since 1999.
Up to 10 annual scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each are awarded with funding made available from Lou and Beth Holtz. Those students who meet requirements are eligible to receive an additional $5,000 in their second year. Students are chosen by a Hall of Fame scholarship committee on the basis of an entry form, essay and personal interview process.
Additionally the scholarship program is enhanced by partnerships with New Castle School of Trade-East Liverpool Campus, Ohio Valley College of Technology and Pittsburgh Technical College, each of which has agreed to match the scholarship of an eligible student annually, if one who is enrolling in their school applies and is selected for the Life Improvement Scholarship. Those students designated for matching scholarships receive a combined award of up to $10,000 the first year and $10,000 the second year.
Companies or individuals interested in helping area youth seeking two-year trade school educations by establishing scholarships to be administered by the Holtz Hall of Fame and trade schools willing to provide matching funds for scholarship recipients are encouraged to contact Hall of Fame Director Robin Webster at (330) 386-5443.
Eligible high schools are in Ohio are East Liverpool, American Spirit Academy, Beaver Local, Buckeye Online School for Success, Southern Local, Wellsville, Edison, Toronto, Steubenville, Steubenville Catholic Central, Indian Creek, Buckeye Local, Martins Ferry, Bridgeport and Quaker Digital Academy.
Eligible high school in West Virginia are Oak Glen, Weirton, Brooke, Wheeling Park, Wheeling Central Catholic and Weirton Madonna.

SHS Class of 1959 to hold
first monthly luncheon Sept. 23
STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville High School Class of 1959 will hold its first monthly luncheon on Sept. 23 at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern in Steubenville, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Monthly coloring program
at Brooke County Library
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Library will be offering a monthly coloring program for young adults and adults.
According to organizers, coloring is a relaxing and beneficial activity for adults.
The program will be offered from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 19. Materials will be provided but those attending are welcome to bring their own.
