Fidelis Gamma Chapter has a special guest, special program
WEIRTON — The West Virginia Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Sorority for Women Educators met Sept. 5 at Williams Country Club.
Hostesses Shirley DeLuca and Eileen Snyder decorated the tables with items from China and lotus flowers in keeping with the theme of the day.
The membership welcomed W.Va. State President Diane Stilwell from Morgantown.
President Jerry DeFilippo shared September birthdays.
The “Thought for the Day” was given by Carolyn Allison, who read a poem titled “Sisterhood” and gave the blessing for the meal. The August minutes were read by Secretary Bonnie Queses, and the treasurer’s report was given by Allison, treasurer.
A donation was given to Camp Kno Koma in honor of Stilwell.
DeLuca gave a presentation about her teaching in China, highlighting points such as a population of 1.4 billion people, the foods, culture, flag, money and calligraphy. She displayed dresses and scarves. Garlic, ice cream, ketchup, umbrellas, bristle toothbrushes and toilet paper constitute some of the products from China.
Snyder gave the history of the lotus plant and the fortune cookie, which was part of the table decorations.
A committee report was given by Altruistic Chairman Nancy Conley and Sandi Anderson as they are still collecting magazines, coloring books/crayons and diapers. Alpha Delta Kappa Month will be presented by Nancy Deters and Elaine McClung next month. Courtesy Chairman Pat Accettolo continues to send cards.
Fraternity Education Chairman Diane Higgins will be presenting the Founders Day Program during the October meeting. Membership Chairman Ruth Fuller will contact those who may be interested in joining the chapter.
Member Janet Benzo circulated a newsletter that stated the name of the books donated by Fidelis Gamma Chapter to the Brooke County libraries in memory of Eva Belle Catlett.
The WV Council of Chapter Presidents’ on Aug. 10 in Fairmont was attended by DeFilippo, Immediate Past President Fuller, State Bylaws Chairman Allison, President-Elect Benzo and WV State Protocol Chairman Higgins.
The Fidelis Gamma Chapter was presented the Seven Pearls International Award for timely reporting, membership and attending conventions.
The Ohio Valley District meeting will be held Oct. 26 in Glendale. The Tri-Chapter Christmas brunch will be held Dec. 7 at Scaffidi’s Restaurant with Chapter Alpha Kappa as host.
Stilwell provided information on the state convention being held at Canaan Valley on April 24-26 and the Southeast Region Conference will be held in Wilmington, N.C., on July 6-10.
In appreciation, DeFilippo presented flowers to the Stilwell for her visit and also to DeLuca for the presentation on China.
The next meeting will be held Oct. 3. Hostesses will be Benzo, Deters and Anderson.
