The Jefferson County Veterans Association held its annual Veterans Day program Monday at the 4-H building in Friendship Park. Jefferson County Commissioner Thomas Graham was the guest speaker who also sang the national anthem and “God Bless America.” A special tribute was paid to JCVA member and Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla, for his commitment and generosity of time, treasure and labor to the association. The presentation was made by Frank Santa, commander. The JCVA participates in Buckeye Local High School Memorial Day and Veterans Day programs; provides 21 gun salutes at veterans’ funerals; holds an annual countywide veterans picnic and breakfast; and maintains the Fort Friendship Veterans Memorial Museum and Wall of Honor in Friendship Park, Smithfield.
