‘Souper’ success

-- Contributed

Carriage Inn of Steubenville hosted its second-annual “Souper Bowl” Challenge on Jan. 31 with four area high schools participating and competing for a $250 cash prize, including Indian Creek, Steubenville, Toronto and Edison. Several other individuals also contributed soup, but only the schools were entered for the prize, explained Nancy Felton, community director of marketing, Capital Health Care. The $250 prize for the most votes went to Indian Creek High School. The event was emceed by Tate Blanchard of IC Care. Celebrity judges including Steubenville Mayor Jerry Barilla; Tricia Maple-Damewood, president of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce; and Dave Maple, Jefferson County commissioner; Kate Sedgmer, executive director of the United Way of Jefferson County; and Judy Bratten of Historic Fort Steuben were on hand to select Judges’ Choice. That $50 gift card was presented to Steubenville High School. More than $600 was raised in two hours to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
