Shiloh’s ‘Praise is What I Do’

program for Sunday postponed

WEIRTON — Shiloh Apostolic Church, 3000 Weir Ave, Weirton has canceled its annual “Praise is What I Do” program.

It has been postponed until a later date, an announcement notes.

Zion United Church of Christ

cancels services for March

STEUBENVILLE — Zion United Church of Christ, located at 139 N. Fifth St., Steubenville, has canceled worships services for March 22 and March 29.

An e-mail from a church spokesperson notes that “we will reassess and update April as we get closer.”

Weirton United Methodist

Charge services canceled

WEIRTON — The in-person services and activities of the Weirton United Methodist Charge are suspended, effective immediately because of the severity of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Parishioners of Christ United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church and Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, along with the general public, will be able to worship online through a live-stream presentation by Pastor Carol McKay on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.

The service will be live-streamed on the Weirton United Methodist Charge Facebook page, and McKay noted it would then be available on web pages of each church and archived on the Facebook page.

Performances of ‘Hosanna

Resurrection’ being canceled

WEIRTON — “Hosanna Resurrection,” the passion play that was to have been presented March 26-29 at St. Payul Church, Weirton, has been canceled, due to the corona virus pandemic.

“We are very sorry that this incredible production will not take place; howeve,r we do believe that God has great plans for the future of ‘Hosanna,'” noted Cindy Oliver, publicity coordinator, in a release announcing the cancellation. “His message of salvation will not be silenced. May you experience God’s abundant grace and mercy in these difficult times.”

executive board to meet

WEIRTON — Church Women United’s executive board meeting will be held April 3 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, located at 229 California Ave. It will begin at 10 a.m.

Plans for May Friendship Day will be discussed. The unit president is Rebecca “Tish” Turner. For information, contact Colleen Mindzak.

cancels events, activities

WEIRTON — Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church is canceling all events and activities for the next two weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a release from the church office sent March 18.

Sacred Heart of Mary cancels

Wednesday Lenten dinners

WEIRTON — Sacred Heart of Mary Church, located at 200 Preston Ave., Weirton, has announced the cancellation of their Lenten dinners on Wednesdays because of the coronavirus pandemic.

St. Peter Church’s CWC

members have March meeting

STEUBENVILLE — The St. Peter Church Catholic Woman’s Club held its monthly meeting on March 3 at Froehlich’s Classic Corner in Steubenville. President Bea Antol led the opening prayer.

A thank-you card was received from “adopted” seminarian Aaron O’Nan for a birthday gift and card.

The CWC will be hosting receptions for First Holy Communion in May and confirmation in June.

The club was reminded about the Mother of Hope Deanery meeting Sunday in Richmond and the Lenten Day of Spirituality on March 28 in Marietta.

The next scheduled meeting will be on April 7 at Froehlich’s Classic Corner.

Holy Trinity Philoptochos holds

kitchen shower luncheon

STEUBENVILLE — The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Philoptochos Society members had their kitchen shower luncheon on March 5 at the church with Vice President Rana Levenderis presiding.

The Rev. Matthew Moore gave the opening and closing prayers.

The Lenten luncheon was presented by Nick Tsouris of Maryland Market. Hostesses for the meeting were Levenderis and Marianne Balakos.

Valley Hospice was designated as the charity for March.

The group had previously voted on money donations for the kitchen shower luncheon that all agreed on, noted as “all great for the preparation of the Grecian Festival.”
