Weirton VFW Auxiliary to mark National Poppy Day on Friday

WEIRTON — Members of the Auxiliary of the Weirton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2716 will be conducting a scaled-down Poppy Day on Friday, which is National Poppy Day.

Auxiliary members will be stationed outside the Weirton Wal-mart and the Convenient Store on Weirton Heights. All donations received will be earmarked for veteran assistance only.

Members “will offer a poppy to wear in memory of those who gave all for our freedom,” a spokeswoman explained.

The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for their country in all wars.
