Bloomingdale holiday festivities

The “Let’s Celebrate America’s Freedom Together” festivities held Friday at Bloomingdale’s recreation center picnic shelter included the flag-raising by Navy veteran Bob Baker of the Word of Life Pentecostal Church. The Rev. Melody Essex of Shaeffer Chapel AME Church sang the national anthem and a prayer was shared by Mary Smith of the Shaeffer Church. A Vietnam-era veteran, Mayor Dave Gaffney gave the welcome and noted Mary Miller would serve as grand marshal of the July 4 parade. Miller has been a resident of Bloomingdale for more than 50 years and is part of the family who sold bagged peanuts in the shell at county fairs. Darla Pletcher, village councilmenber, was in charge of the food for the free picnic.
