Weir Middle, High School band

students recipients of awards

WEIRTON — Several Weir Middle and Weir High School Band students received awards for the 2019-20 school year.

They included: Outstanding sixth-grade band student, Gracie Beagle; outstanding seventh-grader, Catherine Glodowski; outstanding eighth-grader, Nick Parker; Weir High School outstanding ninth-grader, Matthew Jagela; outstanding 10th-grader, Maria Yates; and outstanding 11th-grader, Jadyn Collins.

The Maestro Award recipient was Thomas Behanna, and the John Philip Sousa Award recipient was Tysen Riggs. The Weir Band queen is Jillian Perito, and the Weir Band king is Tysen Riggs.

Honored with senior awards were Thomas Behanna, Nicol Pavel, Jillian Perito, Tysen Riggs, Kyia Tingler and Harley Wright. Tyler Haddon and Matthew Jagela received honor band medals for their participation in the West Virginia University Honor Band.

The Weir Band Military Ball theme was “The Roaring ’20s” with red and silver as the colors and the flower being sunflowers. The 2020 Military Ball was canceled because of the coronavirus safety precautions in place.

Honored band instructors are: Raymond Seifert, band director; Wendy Cutright, flag instructor; Hunter Helmes and Cassidy Shrieve, dance instructors; Heidi Morris and Ed Elbon, drum instructors; and Katie Parker and Kelly Morris, woodwind instructors.

Library system to customers:

Masks are now being required

STEUBENVILLE — The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County is now requiring library customers to have a cloth mask or face covering on during their in-person library visit.

“Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Jefferson County, the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson feels this is a necessary step for the health and welfare of our customers and employees to remain open to the public,” said Library Director Mike Gray.

All library customers, including children ages 9 and older, are required to wear a protective face mask. One will be provided by the library to the customer if needed.

Anyone who presents a medical documentation exempting them from wearing a face mask will not be required to wear one.

Curbside service is available, and Wi-fi extends to the library parking lot.
